Boundary layer models for calving marine outlet glaciers [PDF]
Abstract. We consider the flow of marine-terminating outlet glaciers that are laterally confined in a channel of prescribed width. In that case, the drag exerted by the channel side walls on the glacier affects extensional stress at the grounding line, and as a result, the flux through the grounding line.

Atmospheric Teleconnections as Potential Drivers of Ross Ice Shelf Basal Melt
Abstract Understanding the processes that regulate basal melt variability beneath Antarctic cold‐cavity ice shelves remains a key challenge for constraining future ice‐sheet mass loss. By linking melt variability directly to the mixing ratios of water masses entering the ice‐shelf cavity over 1993–2018, Pochini et al.

Calving of a Large Greenlandic Tidewater Glacier has Complex Links to Meltwater Plumes and Mélange
Calving and solid ice discharge into fjords account for approximately half of the annual net ice loss from the Greenland ice sheet, but these processes are rarely observed.

Abstract The seafloor morphology and subsurface geometry of a late Neogene contourite drift located along the Peru margin is documented for the first time using multibeam bathymetry, two‐dimensional and three‐dimensional seismic data. Along the margin several submarine canyons incise the shelf and slope.

An Intensive Observation of Calving at Helheim Glacier, East Greenland [PDF]
Calving of glacial ice into the ocean from the Greenland Ice Sheet is an important component of global sea level rise. The calving process itself is relatively poorly observed, understood, and modeled; as such, it represents a bottleneck in improving ...

The last (Wisconsinan) glacial period was punctuated in North America by two glacial maxima, known as the Early and Late Wisconsinan glaciations. In Alaska, these maxima and their subsequent retreats have been the object of dating efforts to reconstruct local climatic events and compare them to global trends.

We present the first simulations of Jakobshavn Isbrae (Sermeq Kujalleq), west Greenland, using a 3D Stokes calving model that permits unrestricted advance and retreat.

Projections of future ice sheet mass loss and thus sea level rise rely on the parametrization of iceberg calving in ice sheet models. The interconnection between submarine melt-induced undercutting and calving is still poorly understood, which makes ...
