Does Climate Risk Affect Employment Decisions? International Evidence

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the effect of climate risk on corporate employment decisions. Using a large sample from 41 countries, we find a positive association between climate risk and underinvestment in labor, notably manifesting as excessive employee layoffs.

Photocatalytic Vanadium‐Mediated Amination of Benzene With Hydroxylamine

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Photochemical activation of N‐phenylphenothiazine (PPT) enables a selective direct benzene amination with hydroxylamine in the presence of various vanadium catalysts under mild reaction conditions. Spectroscopic and kinetic analyses identify a key vanadium(IV)‐hydroxylamine intermediate, elucidate the crucial roles of the acidic medium, the ...

The Potential of Low-Cost UAVs and Open-Source Photogrammetry Software for High-Resolution Monitoring of Alpine Glaciers: A Case Study from the Kanderfirn (Swiss Alps)

open access: yesGeosciences, 2019
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) are a rapidly evolving tool in geosciences and are increasingly deployed for studying the dynamic processes of the earth’s surface. To assess the potential of autonomous low-cost UAVs for the mapping and monitoring of

Synthesis and characterization of amphiphilic nitroxide 1,1,3,3–tetraethylisoindoline–2–oxyl–5–sodium sulfonate (TEIOSNa)

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract The synthesis and characterization of an amphiphilic nitroxide to be used as a controlling agent in a nitroxide‐mediated living radical polymerization in aqueous dispersion media is presented. In the first stage of nitroxide synthesis (phthalimide protection), two reaction methods were employed: traditional and microwave.

Synthesis and characterization of a highly hydrophilic nanocomposite for wettability alteration, water/oil interfacial tension reduction, and enhanced oil recovery

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Mechanism of wettability alteration, interfacial tension reduction, and oil recovery by novel nanocomposite. Abstract The development of stable nanofluids (NFs) for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) relies on optimizing interactions between reservoir rocks and fluids.

Acceleration Processes of Glacier Velocity Driven by Ice-Dammed Lakes: A Case Study of Southern Inylchek Glacier and Lake Merzbacher in Central Tian Shan

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
The ice-dammed Lake Merzbacher forms in depressions beside the Southern Inylchek Glacier and drains periodically through subglacial drainage systems, strongly influencing glacier dynamics.

Expression, Purification, and Microscopy‐Based Assays for Engineered Recombinant Tyrosinated, Detyrosinated, and Δ2 Human Tubulin

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microtubules are noncovalent polymers assembled from α/β tubulin dimers. Their structure, dynamics and interaction with effectors are regulated through the expression of diverse tubulin isotypes and chemically diverse posttranslational modifications, also known as the “tubulin code.” Understanding the biophysical correlates between tubulin ...

Positive glacial regulatory processes promote sustainability of Asian glacier water resources

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Glacier response to climate change results in rapid glacier water resource loss. Positive glacial regulatory processes (GRPs) are processes that buffer glacier water resource losses.
