Volc´an Villarrica (39◦25'12" S, 71◦56'27"W; 2847ma.s.l.) is an active ice-capped volcano located in the Chilean lake district. The surface energy balance and glacier frontal variations have been monitored for several years, using automatic weather ...

ABSTRACT Assessing spatial and temporal variability of clogging in gravel‐bed rivers is challenging because field methods typically rely on labor‐intensive measurements of fine‐sediment content, porosity, or hydraulic conductivity. Clogging is also highly dynamic, driven by hydro‐sedimentary conditions; yet few studies have examined it at large scales ...

MASS BALANCE MODELING OF THE BARKRAK GLACIER
The article is devoted to the study of the mass balance dynamics of the Barkrak Glacier, located in the Western Tien Shan mountain system. To determine annual and seasonal balances, evaluate the relationship between field observation results and modeling outcomes, and assess their impact on regional water resources, a combination of direct ...

ABSTRACT The presumptive standards approach to environmental flows offers a method to develop interim guidelines for ecological and social‐cultural flow needs. The approach is based on deriving acceptable percent‐of‐flow limits based on naturalised flows (the absence of depletion or alteration of flow), and it can be an effective precursor to a full ...

This study presents a semi‐automated, rule‐based image analysis pipeline to detect ice seals in aerial surveys of the Western Antarctic Peninsula during an unusually low sea ice year. By using simple hierarchical clustering instead of deep learning, the method substantially reduced human annotation effort while achieving 82% recall, identifying 758 ...

Abstract Nepal's vast hydropower potential is central to its long‐term economic development; however, it exhibits pronounced spatial heterogeneity and is increasingly vulnerable to climate‐induced risks. This study employs an integrated, Basin‐scale analytical framework to evaluate the hydrological productivity and economic viability of major river ...

Nesting ecology of an ice‐associated seabird, Kittlitz's murrelet, at the northern edge of its range
We studied the Kittlitz's murrelet, an ice‐associated seabird of conservation concern, at the northern edge of its range. Over a 2‐year period, we estimated nest density and success at 2 sites, captured and telemetered nesting murrelets, and tested the use of a thermal camera to improve nest detection.

Glacio-limnological interactions at lake-calving glaciers
Iceberg calving is an efficient ablation process which introduces mechanical instability to glacier systems and can cause non-linear climatic response.
