Variations in the surface velocity of an alpine cirque glacier [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 2018
ABSTRACTFollowing pioneering work in Norway, cirque glaciers have widely been viewed as rigidly rotating bodies. This model is incorrect for basin-filling cirque glaciers, as we have demonstrated at West Washmawapta Glacier, a small glacier in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

G6PC Downregulation Promotes Renal Calcium Oxalate Stone Formation via Lactate‐Induced SNAIL1 K206 Lactylation and Epithelial‐Mesenchymal Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In renal calcium oxalate stone formation, G6PC downregulation leads to lactate accumulation. This lactate mediates CBP/p300‐dependent lactylation of SNAIL1 at K206, promoting its nuclear translocation. Nuclear SNAIL1 activates the TGF‐β/SMAD3 pathway, driving epithelial‐mesenchymal transition and fibrosis, which ultimately facilitates crystal ...

Sediment motion and velocity in a glacier-fed stream [PDF]

open access: yesGeomorphology, 2017
Current understanding of coarse sediment transport (e.g. threshold for motion, travel length and virtual velocity) in mountain rivers is still quite limited, and even less is known about glacial streams. However, the hydrological characteristics of these systems (strong daily discharge fluctuations, high water turbidity) pose challenges to the use of ...

Assessing the catastrophic break-up of Briksdalsbreen, Norway, associated with rapid climate change

open access: yes, 2011
Recent research has raised concerns about the potential influence of rapid climate change on the stability of major ice sheets. The behaviour of glaciers is determined largely by the processes and conditions operating at their base.

A Disaggregation Strategy for Nanopesticide Fabrication: Investigating the Impact of Nanosizing on Pesticide Biointeractions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To explore the impact of nanosizing on pesticide biointeractions, a 7‐nm (average) emamectin benzoate nanopesticide without nanocarriers or surfactants is fabricated via HOAc‐mediated disaggregation. Nanosizing enhances bioactivity against Megalurothrips usitatus and Meloidogyne enterolobii and improves plant penetration.

Guidelines for Detecting the Foodborne Antibiotic‐Resistant Bacteria

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Foodborne antibiotic‐resistant bacteria threaten global public health and the economic. Standardized detection methods are crucial for effective prevention and control. Researchers encounter difficulties in choosing suitable techniques due to the variety of available approaches and the intricate nature of resistance mechanisms.

Across-Track and Multi-Aperture InSAR for 3-D Glacier Velocity Estimation of the Siachen Glacier

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) remote sensing generally lacks deformation sensitivity in the along-track direction. In this proposed approach, across-track observations from conventional InSAR, using both ascending and descending passes, were superimposed with the along-track movement derived from multi-aperture InSAR (MAI) to ...

Velocities of Major Outlet Glaciers of the Patagonia Icefield Observed by TerraSAR-X [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The capabilities of TerraSAR-X data for feature tracking by amplitude correlation over glacier surfaces are investigated. Methodical aspects of the amplitude correlation approach are described.

Does salinity make a difference—Kidney anatomy of Saimaa (Pusa saimensis) and Baltic ringed seals (Pusa hispida botnica)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract As habitat salinity markedly differs between the endangered, freshwater‐dwelling Saimaa ringed seal (Pusa saimensis Nordquist, 1899) and the brackish water‐inhabiting Baltic ringed seal (Pusa hispida botnica Gmelin, 1788), we investigated whether this difference has resulted in morphological changes to their kidneys.
