Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Ultra-Broadband Plasmon Resonance in Gold Nanoparticles Precipitated in ZnO-Al2O3-SiO2 Glass

open access: yesCeramics
Optical materials with a tunable localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) are of great interest for applications in photonics and optoelectronics. In the present study, we explored the potential of generating an LSPR band with an ultra-broad range of ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Decarbonizing Industrial Heat – A Comparison of Embodied Carbon for PV and Enclosed Parabolic Trough Systems

open access: yesSolarPACES Conference Proceedings
Heat accounts for more than half the world’s energy use. The largest user of heat is industry, and the pressure to decarbonize is high. Tendencies to “electrify everything” are seen everywhere, but electric energy is expensive for medium and high ...

Enhancement of electrical conductivity associated with non-bridged oxygen defects in molybdenum phosphate oxide glass via doping of SrO

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Based on the attractive properties of phosphate glass, improved molybdenum phosphate glasses of composition 40P2O5, 20MoO3, 15MgO, (25-x)Li2O, xSrO, [x = 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 mol %] were prepared via the melt-quench technique. They were characterized by X-

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Permutation glass [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2018
The field of disordered systems provides many simple models in which the competing influences of thermal and non-thermal disorder lead to new phases and non-trivial thermal behavior of order parameters. In this paper, we add a model to the subject by considering a system where the state space consists of various orderings of a list. As in spin glasses,

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.

Enhanced luminescence at 2.88 and 2.04 μm from Ho3+/Yb3+ codoped low phonon energy TeO2–TiO2–La2O3 glass

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2019
The high phonon energy and short infrared cut-off wavelength of conventional oxide glass (or crystal) hosts are the limitations to achieve mid-infrared (MIR, λ≥2.5μm) luminescence.

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.
