An Overlooked Habitat‐Dependent Link Between Metabolism and Water Loss in Reptiles
Integrative Zoology, EarlyView.We measured the gas exchange of six lizard and six snake species, under high and low air humidity, and two intriguing patterns emerged. First, although desert species lose less water via evaporation than similar‐sized mesic species under similar conditions, water loss is virtually the same when each is exposed to its natural conditions.
