Molecular dissection of host cell invasion by the Apicomplexans: the glideosome

open access: yesParasite, 2008
Gliding motility is an essential and fascinating apicomplexantypical adaptation to an intracellular lifestyle. Apicomplexan parasites rely on gliding motility for their migration across biological barriers and for host cell invasion and egress.

Precipitation‐Modulated Harmonic Architectures Enable Superior Strength–Ductility Synergy from Cryogenic to Elevated Temperatures in Nanostructured Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Precipitation‐modulated recrystallization enables a programmable bimodal harmonic architecture in a high‐entropy alloy, delivering 1–2 GPa yield strength with >10% ductility from −196 °C to 700 °C. The resulting broad‐temperature robustness arises from the synergy of dual‐mode nanoprecipitation, harmonic core–shell topology, and temperature‐adaptive ...

Quantifying gliding forces of filamentous cyanobacteria by self-buckling

open access: yeseLife
Filamentous cyanobacteria are one of the oldest and today still most abundant lifeforms on earth, with manifold implications in ecology and economics. Their flexible filaments, often several hundred cells long, exhibit gliding motility in contact with ...

A versatile class of cell surface directional motors gives rise to gliding motility and sporulation in Myxococcus xanthus.

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2013
Eukaryotic cells utilize an arsenal of processive transport systems to deliver macromolecules to specific subcellular sites. In prokaryotes, such transport mechanisms have only been shown to mediate gliding motility, a form of microbial surface ...

Diffusion‐Based Generative Model With Scaffold‐Hopping Strategy Yields Highly Potent Bioactive Molecules

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SMarT‐Diff introduces a multi‐objective generative paradigm that integrates scaffold hopping with structure‐aware scoring to enable controlled exploration beyond the training distribution. The framework consistently balances drug‐likeness, synthesizes accessibility and bioactivity, yielding chemically diverse candidates with enhanced properties.

Diversity and Evolution of Myxobacterial Type IV Pilus Systems

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Type IV pili (T4P) are surface-exposed protein fibers that play key roles in the bacterial life cycle via surface attachment/adhesion, biofilm formation, motility, and development.

Hierarchical Ordering Induced Ultrahigh Cryogenic Strength and Strain Hardening in a Ni2CoFeV Medium‐Entropy Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A tri‐phase Ni2CoFeV medium‐entropy alloy with fcc, κ, and L12 phases achieves exceptional cryogenic strength‐ductility synergy at 77 K. It delivers a yield strength of 1.4 GPa, an ultimate tensile strength of 2.07 GPa and a tensile ductility of 28%.

Intraflagellar transport drives flagellar surface motility

open access: yeseLife, 2013
The assembly and maintenance of all cilia and flagella require intraflagellar transport (IFT) along the axoneme. IFT has been implicated in sensory and motile ciliary functions, but the mechanisms of this relationship remain unclear.

Bacterial motility: Secretory secrets of gliding bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 1998
Many bacteria glide over surfaces without the aid of flagella. Gliding is still somewhat mysterious, but recent studies show that it involves specialized secretory systems that assemble membrane-associated filaments, and the recognition of extracellular components that trigger movement via transmembrane transducers.

Flexoelectricity in Photoconversion: Fundamentals, Materials, and Outlooks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mechanical bending of a flexible cantilever induces a strain gradient in the photoactive material. The resulting flexoelectric field couples with photovoltaic and photoconductive effects, modulating charge generation, separation, and collection. A comparative analysis of oxide perovskites, halide perovskites, and two‐dimensional materials is presented,
