How wildlife respond to tropical cyclones: short‐term tactics and long‐term impacts

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT From butterflies to lizards and from sharks to seabirds, wildlife exhibit tactics to survive the impacts of tropical cyclones, also known as hurricanes, cyclones, or typhoons depending on where they occur. Some species seek refuge during the storm by moving, some remain in place and ride it out, and others move longer distances, avoiding the ...

On the seismic age and heavy-element abundance of the Sun

open access: yes, 2011
We estimate the main-sequence age and heavy-element abundance of the Sun by means of an asteroseismic calibration of theoretical solar models using only low-degree acoustic modes from the BiSON.

A simple model of EMI-induced timing jitter in digital circuits, its statistical distribution and its effect on circuit performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A simple model has been developed to characterize electromagnetic interference induced timing variations (jitter) in digital circuits. The model is based on measurable switching parameters of logic gates, and requires no knowledge of the internal ...

High Current Matching over Full-Swing and Low-Glitch Charge Pump Circuit for PLLs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A high current matching over full-swing and low-glitch charge pump (CP) circuit is proposed. The current of the CP is split into two identical branches having one-half the original current.

The PULSE@Parkes project: A new observing technique for long-term pulsar monitoring

open access: yes, 2009
The PULSE@Parkes project has been designed to monitor the rotation of radio pulsars over time spans of days to years. The observations are obtained using the Parkes 64-m and 12-m radio telescopes by Australian and international high school students ...

Palimpsests of Immaterial Assemblages Taken out of Context: Tracing Pompeians from the Void into the Digital [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper explores some ontological aspects of archaeological voids and enclosures together with their translations and substitutions, and considers the nature of spaces within material archaeological deposits and artefacts.

Transient Charging Dynamics in Stacked Ga2O3/ZnO Photovoltaic Units Governing Wavelength‐Selective Polarity Switching

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This work reveals a “Photovoltaic‐Capacitance” coupling mechanism in stacked Ga2O3/ZnO devices, defining the ZnO/graphene interface as a novel Photovoltaic Dynamic‐Capacitor (PDC). The wavelength‐selective bipolar response enables a physical layer secure communication protocol based on ternary optical logic (“1,” “0,” “−1”).

Colonial and gendered peace: Decolonial perspectives on peace in Nagorno‐Karabakh

open access: yesFeminist Anthropology, EarlyView.
Abstract This article critically interrogates peace processes in the aftermath of the First Nagorno‐Karabakh War by centering the lived experiences and political voices of Armenian and Azerbaijani internally displaced and refugee women, based on ethnographic fieldwork and in‐depth interviews conducted in 2019.

Soft thought (in architecture and choreography) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This article is an introduction to and exploration of the concept of ‘soft thought’. What we want to propose through the definition of this concept is an aesthetic of digital code that does not necessarily presuppose a relation with the generative ...
