Global prevalence and antibiotic resistance profiles of carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa reported from 2014 to 2024: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
IntroductionCarbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CRPA) represents a global threat, but the global distribution of carbapenem resistant bacteria remains a critical issue in public health.MethodsWe conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Global burden and trends of self-harm from 1990 to 2021, with predictions to 2050

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
BackgroundSelf-harm has become a major public health problem globally. Data on the burden of self-harm in this study were taken from the GBD 2021. This study aimed to quantify historical trends (1990–2021) in the global burden of self-harm across genders,

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Satellite Clear‐Sky Observations Overestimate Surface Urban Heat Islands in Humid Cities

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Satellite‐based thermal infrared (TIR) land surface temperature (LST) is hindered by cloud cover and is applicable solely under clear‐sky conditions for estimating surface urban heat island intensity (SUHII).

Mental health phenotypes of well-controlled HIV in Uganda

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
IntroductionThe phenotypic expression of mental health (MH) conditions among people with HIV (PWH) in Uganda and worldwide are heterogeneous. Accordingly, there has been a shift toward identifying MH phenotypes using data-driven methods capable of ...

Global poverty & global politics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In recent years, many policymakers and scholars supportive of globalization – but opposed to many things done in the name of globalization – have begun to draw lessons from policymaking, statistical analysis and the lives of everyday citizens about what ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
