Seasonal hindcasts to assess the hazard of meteorological drought over Europe: A multimodel approach

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
An application of seasonal hindcasts is presented for assessing the hazard of meteorological drought at the regional scale across Europe. The realism of seasonal hindcasts from five contributors to the Copernicus Climate Change Service is assessed through a rigorous workflow.

Evropski in globalni model geoida na območju Slovenije [PDF]

open access: yesGeodetski Vestnik, 2000
Article deals with geoid models EGM96 and EGG97. Model geoidundulations are verified by means of given geoid undulations that werecomputed from measured orthometric and elipsoidal heights.

Estimation of Vertical Datum Parameters Using the GBVP Approach Based on the Combined Global Geopotential Models

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Unification of the global vertical datum has been a key problem to be solved for geodesy over a long period, and the main challenge for a unified vertical datum system is to determine the vertical offset between the local vertical datum and the global ...

The Accuracy Assessment of the PREM and AK135-F Radial Density Models

open access: yesSensors, 2022
The Earth’s synthetic density and gravitational models can be used to validate numerical methods for global (or large-scale) gravimetric forward and inverse modelling formulated either in the spatial or spectral domains.

On the possibility of measuring relativistic gravitational effects with a LAGEOS-LAGEOS II-OPTIS-mission

open access: yes, 2002
In this paper we wish to preliminary investigate if it would be possible to use the orbital data from the proposed OPTIS mission together with those from the existing geodetic passive SLR LAGEOS and LAGEOS II satellites in order to perform precise ...

Characteristics of diabatically influenced cyclones with high wind damage potential in Europe

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Diabatic processes contribute, on average, 26% to the intensification of European winter storms, with diabatically driven cyclones exhibiting steeper deepening rates, stronger wind gusts, and increased precipitation. These storms are linked to enhanced warm conveyor belt (WCB) activity and develop in a warmer environment with elevated lower ...

Almost Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Representing Gravity in Global Models but Were Afraid to Ask

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems
For over 60 years, an approximation involving spherical geopotentials has underlain the representation of gravity in global numerical models of Earth's atmosphere and oceans. This article explores how departures from sphericity can be allowed by assuming

Dynamical orbital effects of General Relativity on the satellite-to-satellite range and range-rate in the GRACE mission: a sensitivity analysis

open access: yes, 2012
We numerically investigate the impact of GTR on the orbital part of the satellite-to-satellite range \rho and range-rate \dot\rho of the twin GRACE A/B spacecrafts through their dynamical equations of motion integrated in an Earth-centered frame over a ...

Assimilation of European and global Mode‐S aircraft observations into the Met Office global deterministic numerical weather prediction model

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
European and global Mode‐S aircraft reports have been assimilated into the Met Office global deterministic numerical weather prediction model, improving forecast accuracy for wind, temperature, and geopotential height. This is the first time global Mode‐S network data have been assimilated, which include data from under‐observed regions, and has ...

Accuracy Evaluation of Geoid Heights in the National Control Points of South Korea Using High-Degree Geopotential Model

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Precise geoid heights are not as important for understanding Earth’s gravity field, but they are important to geodesy itself, since the vertical datum is defined as geoid in a cm-level accuracy.
