Assessment of Myocardial Function in Pediatric Patients with Operated Tetralogy of Fallot: Preliminary Results with 2D Strain Echocardiography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The global myocardial function in patients after repair of tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) can be assessed by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) and measurement of B-type natriuretic peptides.

Global longitudinal strain software upgrade: Implications for intervendor consistency and longitudinal imaging studies

open access: yesArchives of Cardiovascular Diseases, 2016
Speckle tracking can be used to measure left ventricular global longitudinal strain (GLS).To study the effect of speckle tracking software product upgrades on GLS values and intervendor consistency.Subjects (patients or healthy volunteers) underwent systematic echocardiography with equipment from Philips and GE, without a change in their position.

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

PEDOT‐Based Eutectogel Electrode Arrays for Enhanced High‐Resolution Electrogastrography: Fabrication, Stability, and Wearable Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we present a high‐density PEDOT eutectogel electrode array for enhanced body surface gastric mapping. Silver electrodes are blade‐coated onto flexible substrates, followed by electrogelation of PEDOT:PSS and the deposition of a PEDOT:LS eutectogel.

Speckle Tracking Echocardiography for the Assessment of the Athlete's Heart: Is It Ready for Daily Practice? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To describe the use of speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) in the biventricular assessment of athletes' heart (AH). Can STE aid differential diagnosis during pre-participation cardiac screening (PCS) of athletes?

2D Magnetic and Topological Quantum Materials and Devices for Ultralow Power Spintronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
2D magnets and topological quantum materials enable ultralow‐power spintronics by combining robust magnetic order with symmetry‐protected, Berry‐curvature‐driven transport. Fundamentals of 2D anisotropy and spin‐orbit‐coupling induced band inversion are linked to scalable growth and vdW stacking.

High‐Resolution and Real‐Time In Situ Generation of Cellular Spheroids by Laser‐Assisted Bioprinting for Guided Microvascularization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐injection laser‐assisted bioprinting enables ultrafast and precise patterning of small endothelial cell spheroids by injecting a highly concentrated single‐cell suspension into GelMA/ColMA hydrogels. In co‐culture with fibroblasts, controlled pre‐vasculogenic network formation is obtained at microscale resolution.
