Two experimental approaches examined observers' ability to characterize shape symmetry based upon the information obtained within a single fixation. Exp. I tested observers' ability to discriminate among three levels of symmetry on the basis of a 25-msec. presentation.

Pyramid symmetry transforms: From local to global symmetry
Image and Vision Computing, 2007Pyramid computation is a natural paradigm of computation in planning strategies and multi-resolution image analysis. This paper introduces a new paradigm that is based on the concept of soft-hierarchical operators implemented in pyramid architecture to retrieve global versus local symmetries.

Global Intrinsic Symmetries of Shapes
Computer Graphics Forum, 2008AbstractAlthough considerable attention in recent years has been given to the problem of symmetry detection in general shapes, few methods have been developed that aim to detect and quantify the intrinsic symmetry of a shape rather than its extrinsic, or pose‐dependent symmetry.

Symmetries and global transport equations
Physics of Fluids B: Plasma Physics, 1991The anomalous transport of the electron thermal energy and that of the longitudinal current density are related to each other and described by a diffusion matrix equation. The symmetry properties of the matrix diffusion coefficients are identified and used to prescribe realistic conditions on the radial profiles of the electron temperature T and of the

Possible Schemes for Global Symmetry
Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1963An attempt was made to determine all possible schemes for global symmetry as representations of groups. All possible schemes which correspond to connected groups were found, but the conclusions about nonconnected groups are incomplete. Physical interpretation of the schemes is discussed, and a detailed summary of group-theoretic methods is included.

A possible test of the global symmetry proposed independently by Gell- Mann. Schwinger, and Tiomno is discussed. The discussion is confined to the case of final three-body reactions where the conservation of energy and angular momentum appear less restrictive for a pair among the final three particles.
