Global Detection of Symmetry

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1977
Two experimental approaches examined observers' ability to characterize shape symmetry based upon the information obtained within a single fixation. Exp. I tested observers' ability to discriminate among three levels of symmetry on the basis of a 25-msec. presentation.

Pyramid symmetry transforms: From local to global symmetry

Image and Vision Computing, 2007
Pyramid computation is a natural paradigm of computation in planning strategies and multi-resolution image analysis. This paper introduces a new paradigm that is based on the concept of soft-hierarchical operators implemented in pyramid architecture to retrieve global versus local symmetries.

Symmetries and global transport equations

Physics of Fluids B: Plasma Physics, 1991
The anomalous transport of the electron thermal energy and that of the longitudinal current density are related to each other and described by a diffusion matrix equation. The symmetry properties of the matrix diffusion coefficients are identified and used to prescribe realistic conditions on the radial profiles of the electron temperature T and of the

Possible Schemes for Global Symmetry

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1963
An attempt was made to determine all possible schemes for global symmetry as representations of groups. All possible schemes which correspond to connected groups were found, but the conclusions about nonconnected groups are incomplete. Physical interpretation of the schemes is discussed, and a detailed summary of group-theoretic methods is included.

Weak global symmetry

Il Nuovo Cimento, 1960
The Feynman, Gell-Mann model of weak interactions is modified by the introduction of neutral « currents », both of the strangenesss preserving (J) and strangeness changing (S) variety. The various currents, neutral and charged, are chosen and coupled in such a manner as to guarantee the |ΔT|=1/2 selection rule.

Global-symmetry evolution in axion cosmologies

Physical Review D, 1985
Cosmological constraints on invisible axion models require a mass scale far below the grand unification scale. Such a hierarchy can lead to an evolution of global symmetries accompanied by a complicated axion domain-wall problem. We show that if this problem is solved at the highest mass scale in the theory, then it does not reoccur at lower mass ...
