El termómetro de globo en estudios de confort y medioambiente en los edificios [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The reasons for the inferior performance of many existing buildings and associated energy systems are diverse, but an important part-cause is insufficient attention to the influence of occupant behaviour.

Thermodynamics with long-range interactions: from Ising models to black-holes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
New methods are presented which enables one to analyze the thermodynamics of systems with long-range interactions. Generically, such systems have entropies which are non-extensive, (do not scale with the size of the system).

Recent Advances in Laser‐Induced Graphene‐Based Gas Sensors: From Sensing Mechanisms to Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) provides a scalable, laser‐direct‐written route to porous graphene architecture with tunable chemistry and defect density. Through heterojunction engineering, catalytic functionalization, and intrinsic self‐heating, LIG achieves highly sensitive and selective detection of NOX, NH3, H2, and humidity, supporting next ...

Unruh versus Tolman: On the heat of acceleration

open access: yes, 2016
It is shown that the Unruh effect, i.e. the increase in temperature indicated by a uniformly accelerated thermometer in an inertial vacuum state of a quantum field, cannot be interpreted as the result of an exchange of heat with a surrounding gas.

Cars2‐Mediated Cysteine Catabolism Drives Brown Fat Development and Thermogenesis Through Persulfidating EBF2

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that Cars2, a cysteine catabolic enzyme in mouse iBAT, is critical for cold tolerance and brown adipocyte differentiation. Through its CPERS activity, Cars2 produces CysSSH/H2S to induce EBF2 persulfidation, promoting its interaction with PPARγ and BRG1 to enhance thermogenic gene expression.

WeatherHawk Weather Station Protocol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This resource provides instructions on how to log atmosphere data using a WeatherHawk weather station. A weather station is setup to measure and record atmospheric measurements at 15-minute intervals and can be transferred to the GLOBE program via email.

Acoustic Spectroscopy of Superfluid 3He in Aerogel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We have designed an experiment to study the role of global anisotropic quasiparticle scattering on the dirty aerogel superfluid 3He system. We observe significant regions of two stable phases at temperatures below the superfluid transition at a pressure ...

Mechanistic insights into temperature-dependent regulation of the simple cyanobacterial hsp17 RNA thermometer at base-pair resolution

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 2015
The cyanobacterial hsp17 ribonucleicacid thermometer (RNAT) is one of the smallest naturally occurring RNAT. It forms a single hairpin with an internal 1×3-bulge separating the start codon in stem I from the ribosome binding site (RBS) in stem II.

Advanced Technologies for Characterizing and Detecting Battery Thermal Failure: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Illustration of advanced characterization techniques to predict battery thermal failure. ABSTRACT Energy storage is essential in accelerating the global transition toward clean and sustainable energy across various sectors. Lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) have become increasingly significant for energy storage due to their high energy density, low ...
