Abstract Background The coexistence of tics with Parkinson's disease (PD) is rare, as they often emerge at different ages, follow different trajectories and involve contrasting pathophysiological mechanisms related to dopamine availability and function in the brain. Cases We present 10 individuals with primary tic disorders who later developed PD.

The globus pallidus orchestrates abnormal network dynamics in a model of Parkinsonism
Oscillatory changes between basal ganglia nuclei occur in Parkinson’s disease. Here the authors determine that the globus pallidus is the source of beta oscillation generation in a rodent model of the disease.

Automatic target validation based on neuroscientific literature mining for tractography [PDF]
Target identification for tractography studies requires solid anatomical knowledge validated by an extensive literature review across species for each seed structure to be studied. Manual literature review to identify targets for a given seed region is tedious and potentially subjective. Therefore, complementary approaches would be useful.

Plasma injection and outflow formation in Kerr black holes [PDF]
We discuss the role plasma injection plays in the formation of outflows in Kerr spacetime. Using a model for the double flow established in the polar region of a rotating black hole, we study the interplay between the different processes that can power the outflow.

Abstract Background Dopamine dysregulation syndrome (DDS) is a debilitating complication of Parkinson's disease (PD) dopamine replacement therapy (DRT) in which patients pathologically and/or compulsively use dopaminergic drugs to treat motor symptoms. Studies examining DDS outcomes following deep brain stimulation (DBS) are limited and have focused on

Diagnostic value of conventional MRI combined with DTI for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia
Background: Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia (NHB) is a common clinical disease and can cause bilirubin encephalopathy in severe cases. It is now widely accepted that increased signal intensity in the globus pallidus on MR T1WI is an important sign of ...
