Magnetic collimation of meridional-self-similar general relativistic MHD flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present a model for the spine of relativistic MHD outflows in the Kerr geometry. Meridional self-similarity is invoked to derive semi-analytical solutions close to the polar axis. The study of the energy conservation along a particular field line gives a simple criterion for the collimation of jets.

Reward circuitry is perturbed in the absence of the serotonin transporter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The serotonin transporter (SERT) modulates the entire serotonergic system in the brain and influences both the dopaminergic and norepinephrinergic systems.

Metabolic Stroke: A Novel Presentation in a Child with Succinic Semialdehyde Dehydrogenase Deficiency

open access: yesAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology, 2020
Succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase (SSADH) deficiency is an autosomal recessive disorder of gamma-aminobutyric acid metabolism. Children with SSADH deficiency usually manifest with developmental delay, behavioral symptoms, language dysfunction, seizures,

Desynchronizing effect of high-frequency stimulation in a generic cortical network model

open access: yes, 2012
Transcranial Electrical Stimulation (TCES) and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) are two different applications of electrical current to the brain used in different areas of medicine. Both have a similar frequency dependence of their efficiency, with the most

Joint inference on structural and diffusion MRI for sequence-adaptive Bayesian segmentation of thalamic nuclei with probabilistic atlases [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Segmentation of structural and diffusion MRI (sMRI/dMRI) is usually performed independently in neuroimaging pipelines. However, some brain structures (e.g., globus pallidus, thalamus and its nuclei) can be extracted more accurately by fusing the two modalities. Following the framework of Bayesian segmentation with probabilistic atlases and unsupervised

Status Dystonicus in Children: Is it more Common than we Realize?

open access: yesMovement Disorders Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Status dystonicus (SD) is the most severe form of dystonia, affecting predominantly children. SD is thought to be rare, but the incidence is unknown. Objective We aimed to: (1) assess the number of admissions involving SD (2) describe complications/intensive care unit (ICU) transfers, and (3) evaluate whether these changed with ...
