In Vivo Characterization of Magnetic Inclusions in the Subcortex From Nonexponential Transverse Relaxation Decay

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 38, Issue 6, June 2025.
Nonexponential transverse relaxation decay allows to characterize the spatial distribution of magnetic material within subcortical grey matter tissue. ABSTRACT According to theoretical studies, MRI signal decay due to transverse relaxation in brain tissue with magnetic inclusions (e.g., blood vessels and iron‐rich cells) is expected to follow a ...

An Optimized Framework of QSM Mask Generation Using Deep Learning: QSMmask‐Net

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 38, Issue 6, June 2025.
We propose a deep neural network based method for mask generation in QSM reconstruction to mitigate differences arising from the mask‐generating technique. The QSMmask‐net facilitates the generation of brain masks with low effort while attaining accuracy in QSM maps comparable to those derived from manually segmented masks.

Clinical neuropathology of early‐stage Pick's disease initially diagnosed as depressive disorder: A case report and case series comparison

open access: yesPsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences Reports, Volume 4, Issue 2, June 2025.
This case of a 56‐year‐old patient who presented with apathy and few typical behavioral symptoms was initially diagnosed with depressive disorder. Postmortem examination revealed numerous Pick bodies (which were immunopositive for phosphorylated tau and 3‐repeat tau but negative for 4‐repeat tau), focal atrophy in the frontal lobes, and resulted in a ...
