Patient‐Mounted Neuro Optical Coherence Tomography for Targeted Minimally Invasive Micro‐Resolution Volumetric Imaging in Brain In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
Herein, a patient‐mounted neuro optical coherence tomography system that integrates a 5 degrees‐of‐freedom skull‐mounted robot (Skullbot) with a 0.6 mm neuroendoscope for targeted, minimally invasive deep brain imaging, is developed. The system offers high‐resolution imaging with precise deployment, demonstrated through successful tumor imaging in a ...

Dysfunction of the Lenticular Nucleus Is Associated with Dystonia in Wilson’s Disease

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2022
Dysfunction of the lenticular nucleus is thought to contribute to neurological symptoms in Wilson’s disease (WD). However, very little is known about whether and how the lenticular nucleus influences dystonia by interacting with the cerebral cortex and ...

Endogenous Repair in Vanishing White Matter

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Vanishing white matter is a leukodystrophy with remarkable regional variation in disease severity. The cerebral and cerebellar white matter chronically degenerates, while stress‐induced episodes of rapid neurological deterioration coincide with the appearance of acute focal lesions in the deep gray structures and brainstem.

Serum cholesterol and nigrostriatal R2* values in Parkinson's disease.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BackgroundThe occurrence of Parkinson's disease (PD) is known to be associated both with increased nigrostriatal iron content and with low serum cholesterol and PD, but there has been no study to determine a potential relationship between these two ...

Association Between Internet Use, Cognitive Function, and Globus Pallidus Volumes: A Study Among the Elderly in Chinese Communities

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2022
BackgroundPrevious studies have linked internet use with several beneficial outcomes for brain health, but there is little data on this among older Chinese.ObjectiveThe goal of this study was to explore the association between internet use and cognitive ...

Changes in functional connectivity within the rat striatopallidal axis during global brain activation in vivo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The functional organization of the basal ganglia (BG) is often defined according to one of two opposing schemes. The first proposes multiple, essentially independent channels of information processing.

Anatomical Progression of Neuropathology in FTLD‐TDP Type C and Linkage to Annexin A11

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Frontotemporal lobar degenerations (FTLD)‐TDP type C (TDP‐C) is distinguished from other FTLD‐TDP subtypes by 3 unique features: (1) invariable onset in the anterior temporal lobe (ATL), (2) phosphorylated TDP‐43 (pTDP) neurites in cortex, and (3) colocalization of all pTDP deposits with annexin A11 (ANXA11).

Evaluation of iron deposition in brain basal ganglia of patients with Parkinson's disease using quantitative susceptibility mapping

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Radiology Open, 2019
Aim of the study: Parkinson's disease is associated with iron deposition in the brain. The QSM (quantitative susceptibility mapping) is more sensitive than T2-weighted imaging, T2* and R2.

Multi-Modal Synergistic 99mTc-TRODAT-1 SPECT and MRI for Evaluation of the Efficacy of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in CO-Induced Delayed Parkinsonian and Non-Parkinsonian Syndromes

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2022
Background: Delayed neuropsychiatric syndrome (DNS) is characterized by motor dysfunction after acute carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. We examined the relationship between dopamine transporter (DAT) loss using kit-based Tc-99m-TRODAT-1 (DAT single-photon ...

Sensory processing in external globus pallidus neurons

open access: yesCell Reports, 2023
Sensory processing is crucial for execution of appropriate behavior. The external globus pallidus (GPe), a nucleus within the basal ganglia, is highly involved in the control of movement and could potentially integrate sensory-motor information. The GPe comprises prototypic and arkypallidal cells, which receive partially overlapping inputs.
