Glomalin mediation of plant functional traits unveiled in an extreme ecosystem
Flora, 2023Edaphic filters associated with symbiotic relationships are determinants of plant phenotypes. Here we investigate whether glomalin, a by-product of mycorrhizal fungi that improves soil structure and quality, is involved in the filtering of traits that determine plant ecological strategies.

Differential decomposition of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal hyphae and glomalin
Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 2003Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are obligate symbionts of most higher plants. In addition to being a major component of soil microbial biomass, AMF hyphae produce glomalin, a recalcitrant glycoproteinaceous substance highly correlated with soil aggregate water stability.

Glomalin-related soil protein (GRSP), produced by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), plays a key role in stabilizing potentially toxic elements. This study evaluated the impact of Pb contamination on GRSP content in rhizosphere soil and its contribution

A pressure cooker method to extract glomalin from soils
Soil Science Society of America Journal, 2001Glomalin, a glycoprotein produced by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, is an important constituent of soil organic matter. Glomalin is insoluble in water or salt solutions commonly used in soil extractions. Solubilization of glomalin does occur in the presence of citrate at the temperature achieved by an autoclave (121°C, 103 kPa).

Glomalin production and accumulation in soilless pot cultures
Canadian Journal of Soil Science, 2010This study was designed to determine how glomalin production relates to accumulation in three sequential greenhouse culturing periods using a soilless potting medium. The data indicated that this stable glycoprotein was washed out the pot bottom, and did not accumulate in the hyphal chamber.
