Specular gloss

open access: yes, 2008
The aesthetic appearance of various objects is important to human beings. One measure of the quality of an object is its surface quality, which can be characterized with the concept of gloss. Nowadays measurement of the gloss is a routine off-line method

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Color-printed gloss: Relating measurements to perception

open access: yes, 2022
S.207-211In order to assess the print quality, color and gloss are two important factors that should always be considered. In this paper, we investigate the impact of color on gloss using printed color samples varying between low and medium gloss levels.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

BRDF and gloss measurements

open access: yes, 2007
Gloss is an important aspect of our visual perception of objects. Many developments of gloss measurement have been carried out as part of the technical work of the ASTM, resulting in the ASTM method D523.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Effect of sealants in the composite surface roughness after tooth brushing

open access: yesBioscience Journal, 2014
This in vitro study evaluated the influence of 4 surface sealers on the surface roughness of composite resins. Fifty specimens were divided into 10 groups, as follows: G1. (Control 1) Concept resin; G2. Concept + Fortify; G3.

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...
