Current practice of blood glucose self-monitoring: the basis for effective control of diabetes mellitus

open access: yes, 2023
Chronic hyperglycemia being a major factor of the diabetes complications requires effective treatment aimed at achieving metabolic targets since the moment of the diabetes mellitus (DM) diagnosis.

Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...

A novel compact highly sensitive non-invasive microwave antenna sensor for blood glucose monitoring

open access: yesOpen Physics, 2023
In the present work, a novel compact and highly sensitive microwave antenna sensor at 2.45 GHz is proposed for evaluating glucose concentration in blood. The antenna is printed on an FR-4 substrate of compact dimensions 35 mm × 13.5 mm × 1.6 mm.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Deep Learning‐Coupled Metabolic Heat Integrated Sensing System for Noninvasive Continuous Monitoring of Blood Glucose

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems
The dynamic and continuous monitoring of blood glucose (BG) concentration is crucial for the health management of diabetic patients. Despite its importance, significant challenges remain in the development of effective BG monitoring technologies ...

Hyperosmotic stress‐induced redistribution of pre‐mRNA cleavage factor I subunits is associated with shifts in alternative polyadenylation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hyperosmotic stress triggers the relocation of the CFIm complex from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. This shift creates a nuclear ‘stoichiometric bottleneck’, limiting CFIm availability for mRNA processing. Consequently, specific mRNAs like NUDT21 and DICER1 undergo targeted 3′UTR shortening, demonstrating how spatial protein dynamics drive rapid ...

Literature-Grounded Simulation of Non-Invasive Glucose Monitoring Using NIR Wearable Sensor Archetypes: Accuracy Metrics, Candidate Confounders, and an Adaptive Calibration Framework

open access: yesSensors
Non-invasive continuous glucose monitoring remains an important technological challenge in diabetes management. This study was revised as a literature-grounded simulation and methodological proof-of-concept rather than an experimental clinical validation.

Home blood glucose biosensors: a commercial perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Twenty years on from a review in the first issue of this journal, this contribution revisits glucose sensing for diabetes with an emphasis on commercial developments in the home blood glucose testing market. Following a brief introduction to the needs of

Effects of IGFBP4 deficiency on human preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation through the IGF1R/AKT pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 knockdown (KD) impairs preadipocyte proliferation and is associated with IGF1R protein downregulation and attenuated AKT phosphorylation. The mechanisms by which IGFBP4 KD influences the IGF1R/AKT signaling pathway involve newly synthesized proteins and lysosomal degradation pathways. Created in BioRender.

A new general glucose homeostatic model using a proportional-integral-derivative controller [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The glucose-insulin system is a challenging process to model due to the feedback mechanisms present, hence the implementation of a model-based approach to the system is an on-going and challenging research area.
