Biological and biochemical detection techniques for glufosinate

open access: yes, 2014
Biological and biochemical methods, based on glufosinate inhibitory effects on plant growth and nitrogen metabolism, were examined for their applications to detect this herbicide. Dose-response analysis of radicle growth inhibition showed that, among six

Interaction of 2,4-D or Dicamba with Glufosinate for Control of Glyphosate-Resistant Giant Ragweed (Ambrosia trifida L.) in Glufosinate-Resistant Maize (Zea mays L.)

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2017
Glyphosate-resistant (GR) giant ragweed is a problematic broadleaf weed in crops including maize and soybean in the Midwestern United States. Commercialization of crops with 2,4-D or dicamba and glufosinate resistance will allow post-emergence (POST ...

Pesticide Supply Chains From China to Australia: Examining Paraquat Amid the Global Pesticide Complex

open access: yesJournal of Agrarian Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Following recent calls to deepen understanding of the Global Pesticide Complex, this article delves into the China‐to‐Australia supply chain of a single herbicide—paraquat. First released in the United Kingdom in the 1960s, acutely toxic paraquat is now primarily produced in China.

Response of glufosinate-resistant Bt sweet corn (Zea mays) cultivars to glufosinate and residual herbicides

open access: yes, 2005
Field studies were conducted in 1999 and 2000 at Simcoe and Exeter, Ontario to determine the effect of glufosinate, applied alone or in combination with s-metolachlor/atrazine, on weed control and crop safety on six glufosinate-resistant Bt sweet corn ...

Validation of the International Weed Genomics Consortium genome annotation pipeline through reannotation of the model species Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 19, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract The International Weed Genomics Consortium (IWGC) has sequenced and annotated the genomes of over 30 weed species, generating genomic resources to understand their biology, evolution, and adaptation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the semi‐automated, isoform sequencing (Iso‐seq)‐based, IWGC genome annotation pipeline by ...

Enhanced Nitrogen Uptake and Early Flowering Mitigate Fitness Costs Associated With Glufosinate Resistance in Goosegrass (Eleusine indica)

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, Volume 15, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
Schematic representation of fitness trade‐offs driven by the GS1‐1Ser59Gly mutation in glufosinate‐resistant Eleusine indica. ABSTRACT Herbicide resistance in weeds is frequently accompanied by fitness trade‐offs that compromise survival and reproductive success.

Inhibitory Action of Glufosinate on Photosynthesis

open access: yesZeitschrift für Naturforschung C, 1993
Glufosinate (phosphinothricin) irreversibly blocks the glutamine synthetase which subsequently gives rise to an accumulation of ammonium and to a strong decrease in some amino acids, especially glutamine and glutamate. Under atmospheric conditions (400 ppm CO2, 21% O2) glufosinate causes a rapid inhibition of photosynthesis, too.

Production of EPSPS and bar gene double-herbicide resistant castor (Ricinus communis L.)

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2020
Castor (Ricinus communis L.) is one of the world's top ten oil crops. China is the second largest producer of castor beans, but China's castor bean acreage has been declining. A principal reason for this decline is the prevalence of weeds and the absence

Thirty years of glyphosate‐resistant crops and weeds: Current situation and future prospects

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 7, Page 5987-6009, July 2026.
Since 1996, when the first glyphosate‐resistant crop was commercialized and the first resistant weed was reported, resistance has expanded globally. This review analyzes emergence patterns across weed species, crops, regions, resistance mechanisms, and herbicides.

Natural glufosinate resistance of soil microorganisms and GMO safety

open access: yes, 2010
Bacteria and fungi from pristine soil, never exposed to glufosinate herbicide, were isolated and analyzed for glufosinate tolerance. Seven of the 15 tested isolates were sensitive to 1 mM glufosinate (an active ingredient of many nonselective contact ...
