Reinforcement Design of Poplar Glulam
Materials Science Forum, 2009Wood is one kind of renewable natural eco-material. Glued laminated timber (glulam) is an engineered wood product made from sawn lumber lamina glued together in horizontal layers. The application of glulam in the construction structure not only has great environmental value, but also reduces energy consumption and carbon emission of the construction ...

Super glulam: A flexible adhesive layer boosts the bending resit ance of glulam
2010Theoretical considerations indicate that a single, flexible adhesive layer placed at a vantage height in the cross section can cause a favourable redistribution of the stresses in a glulam beam and thus increase the bending resistance. The requisite mechanical properties of the adhesive layer were determined and communicated to the adhesive ...

Composite Solutions for Glulam Joints
Key Engineering Materials, 2019The current level of the development of composite materials allows producing laminate structures with the desired properties. The application of supercomputer calculation and software systems, numerical modeling methods using finite elements enables the design and analysis of such structures.

Timber structures are often vitally dependent on their joints, especially where they are subject to concentrated forces. A new and simple type of connection for use with glulam (glued laminated timber) has been developed in Denmark; it consists of glueing threaded bolts or rods into the timber, producing joints of high aesthetic quality and offering ...

Bending strength of spruce glulam
European Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2009A glulam strength model where the bending strength depends both on the board tensile strength and the finger joint tensile strength is a completely transparent model being particularly suitable to determine requirements for the board and for the finger joint tensile strength of glulam made of both visually or mechanically strength graded boards.

Compressive strength of spruce glulam
European Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2012Tests on glulam were simulated to determine the compressive strength. Based on the values obtained, three strength models were derived. They describe the compressive strength in terms of the density of the sawn timber used, the moisture content of the glulam and, optionally, of the knot area ratio.

A Review of Connections for Glulam Timber
2015The use of timber as structural member have come under serious review and study recently as good quality logs are alarmingly becoming scarce besides the chronic problems of traditional sawn timber. Many researches regarding the use of timber are needed to strengthen or repair old timber structures as well as to improve the mechanical properties of new ...

Two design criteria, allowable stress design (ASD) and load and resistance factor design (LRFD), are presented for calculating glued-laminated (glulam) stiffener beam depth and number of dome head through bolts used in deck-to-deck connections for longitudinal stringer, transverse deck glulam bridges. Design examples for six deck panel spans (762-3,658

Ductile adhesive interface for glulam
