Regulation of System x\u3csub\u3ec\u3c/sub\u3e\u3csup\u3e-\u3c/sup\u3e by Pharmacological Manipulation of Cellular Thiols [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The cystine/glutamate exchanger (system xc-) mediates the transport of cystine into the cell in exchange for glutamate. By releasing glutamate, system xc- can potentially cause excitotoxicity.

Can bio-inspired information processing steps be realized as synthetic biochemical processes?

open access: yes, 2014
We consider possible designs and experimental realiza-tions in synthesized rather than naturally occurring bio-chemical systems of a selection of basic bio-inspired information processing steps.

Development of Water‐Soluble 3‐Nitro‐2‐Pyridinesulfenate for Disulfide Bond Formation of Peptide Under Aqueous Conditions

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Highly water‐soluble Npy‐sulfenate functions as an efficient oxidizing agent for the formation of disulfide bonds in thiol‐containing peptides. The Npy‐sulfenate can be used to form a disulfide bond with a thiol‐containing peptide produced by thiol‐additive‐free NCL, thereby facilitating the one‐pot synthesis of adrenomedullin.

Redox-manipulating nanocarriers for anticancer drug delivery: a systematic review

open access: yesJournal of Nanobiotechnology
Spatiotemporally controlled cargo release is a key advantage of nanocarriers in anti-tumor therapy. Various external or internal stimuli-responsive nanomedicines have been reported for their ability to increase drug levels at the diseased site and ...

Strategy‐Level Prodrug Synthesis

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Prodrug approaches can be expanded by increasing options for controlling site‐selective functionalization, boosting the range of linking groups, and enhancing the chemoselectivity of reactive group incorporation. This Concept describes strategy‐level prodrug synthesis, whereby these issues are addressed at an early stage of a sequence.

The evolution of glutathione metabolism in phototrophic microorganisms [PDF]

open access: yes
The low molecular weight thiol composition of a variety of phototropic microorganisms is examined in order to ascertain how evolution of glutathione (GSH) production is related to the evolution of oxygenic photosynthesis.
