Increase in soluble RAGE following intensive insulin therapy is associated with β‐cell functional improvement and glycemic remission in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes

Short‐term intensive insulin therapy (SIIT) markedly increased circulating sRAGE levels in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes. The magnitude of sRAGE elevation was associated with improved β‐cell function and a higher likelihood of short‐term glycemic remission.

Burden of Hypoglycemia and Hyperglycemia in Insulin‐Treated Veterans Affairs Nursing Home Residents

Among older adults with insulin‐treated diabetes during their first week in a nursing home, 60% have hyperglycemia ≥ 250 mg/dL and nearly 20% have hypoglycemia < 70 mg/dL, while less than one‐third have no dysglycemia, as measured by routine fingerstick glucose monitoring. Importantly, over two‐thirds of those with hypoglycemia also have hyperglycemia.
