Insulin Degludec Versus Insulin Glargine on Glycemic Variability in Diabetic Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2022
Background/AimsCurrently, glycemic variability has more deleterious effects than sustained hyperglycemia and is closely associated with acute and chronic complications of diabetes.

The Role of Glycemic Control and Variability in Diabetic Retinopathy [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetes Therapy, 2017
Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a common microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus (DM) and is considered the leading cause of visual impairment in working-aged adults worldwide. The duration of DM and hyperglycemia have been associated with DR, although the exact role in the pathogenesis of DR and diabetic macular edema remains controversial.

Imeglimin attenuates liver fibrosis by inhibiting vesicular ATP release from hepatic stellate cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Imeglimin, at clinically relevant concentrations, inhibits vesicular ATP accumulation and release from hepatic stellate cells, thereby attenuating purinergic signaling and reducing fibrogenic activation. This mechanism reveals a newly identified antifibrotic action of imeglimin beyond glycemic control.

Four-Point Preprandial Self-Monitoring of Blood Glucose for the Assessment of Glycemic Control and Variability in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Treated with Insulin and Vildagliptin

open access: yesInternational Journal of Endocrinology, 2015
The study explored the utility of four-point preprandial glucose self-monitoring to calculate several indices of glycemic control and variability in a study adding the DPP-4 inhibitor vildagliptin to ongoing insulin therapy.

Continuous glucose monitoring reveals glycemic variability and hypoglycemia after vertical sleeve gastrectomy in rats

open access: yesMolecular Metabolism, 2020
Objective: Post–bariatric surgery hypoglycemia (PBH) is defined as the presence of neuroglycopenic symptoms accompanied by postprandial hypoglycemia in bariatric surgery patients.

Association Between Long-Term HbA1c Variability and Functional Limitation in Individuals Aged Over 50 Years: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2022
BackgroundAs mean HbA1c provides incomplete information regarding glycemic variability, there has been considerable interest in the emerging association between glycemic variability and macrovascular events and with microvascular complications and ...

Glycemic Variability: Clinical and Prognostic Significance [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetes Research - Open Journal, 2015
Minimizing development or progression of chronic diabetic micro and macro-vascu- lar complications has been always the goal of glycemic control. In recent years, much attention has been focused on the possibility that glycemic variability confers an additional risk factor for diabetic complications independent of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c).

Research progress on the metabolic transformation of Shenling Baizhu San under the influence of the gut microbiota

open access: yesAdvanced Chinese Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract The gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in maintaining host metabolic homeostasis and overall physiological functions. Shenling Baizhu San (SLBZS), a time‐honored classical prescription for tonifying Qi, strengthening the spleen, removing dampness, and arresting diarrhea, has shown broad clinical efficacy in digestive disorders.

Evaluating the influence of sleep quality and quantity on glycemic control in adults with type 1 diabetes

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2023
BackgroundSleep quality disturbances are frequent in adults with type 1 diabetes. However, the possible influence of sleep problems on glycemic variability has yet to be studied in depth.

Impact of Stress‐Induced Hyperglycemia on In‐Hospital Medical Complications in Patients With Acute Stroke: From a Large‐Scale Nationwide Longitudinal Registry

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims This study aimed to explore the relationship between stress‐induced hyperglycemia (SIH) and in‐hospital medical complications in patients with acute stroke. Methods We enrolled 865,765 patients with acute stroke from the Chinese Stroke Center Alliance cohort.
