Esterification of glycerol from biodiesel production to glycerol carbonate in non-catalytic supercritical dimethyl carbonate. [PDF]

open access: yesSpringerplus, 2016
Conversion of glycerol from biodiesel production to glycerol carbonate was studied by esterification with dimethyl carbonate in a non-catalytic supercritical condition. It was found that in a non-catalytic supercritical condition, glycerol at higher purity gave higher yield of glycerol carbonate at 98 wt% after reaction at 300 °C/20-40 MPa/15 min.

Comparative study of conventional and process intensification by reactive distillation designs for glycerol carbonate production from glycerol and diethyl carbonate [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
Glycerol carbonate (GC) can be produced from glycerol (GL), a low-value byproduct in the biodiesel industry. In this work, continuous processes of GC production via transesterification from crude GL and diethyl carbonate (DEC) were developed using Aspen ...

Heterogeneous synthesis of glycerol carbonate from glycerol and dimethyl carbonate catalyzed by LiCl/CaO

open access: yesJournal of Saudi Chemical Society, 2019
In this article, a CaO-based catalyst was prepared by impregnating chloride salts on CaO to develop a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of glycerol carbonate (GC) from glycerol and dimethyl carbonate.

Research on the direct synthesis of glycerol carbonate from carbon dioxide and glycerol

open access: yesCarbon Future
Using biodiesel-based glycerol as raw material to directly synthesize glycerol carbonate with CO2 can not only promote the benign development of biodiesel industry, but also have positive significance for carbon reduction.

Water glass derived catalyst for the synthesis of glycerol carbonate via the transesterification reaction between glycerol and dimethyl carbonate [PDF]

open access: diamondJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2019
Water glasses with different modulus (mole ratio of SiO2 to Na2O) were applied as a raw material to prepare five solid base catalysts for the synthesis of glycerol carbonate (GC) by the transesterification reaction between glycerol and dimethyl carbonate

Recent Progress in Synthesis of Glycerol Carbonate and Evaluation of Its Plasticizing Properties [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2019
The state of the art on the glycerol carbonate (GC) synthesis has been updated since the last published reviews in 2012, 2013, and 2016. Three types of reactions continue to be studied: glycerolysis of urea, transcarbonation of DMC, DEC, or cyclic ...

Catalytic transesterification of glycerol: Optimization for production of glycerol carbonate [PDF]

open access: diamondMalaysian Journal of Fundamental and Applied Sciences, 2019
The purpose of this research was to study the effect of reaction temperature, reaction time and dimethyl carbonate:glycerol (DMC:Gly) molar ratio on the conversion of glycerol and yield of glycerol carbonate. The reaction was further optimized with central composite design (CCD), 15 runs of transesterification reaction were conducted.
