Electrosynthesis of Glycerol Carbonate from Glycerol and Potassium Carbonate on Nickel Electrodes
ECS Transactions, 2017The growing biodiesel industry leads to an excess production of glycerol by-product which is of low value but costly to store or dispose because glycerol is not suitable as fuel due to its sooty flame while its discharge to water leads to eutrophication.

Glycerol and glycerol carbonate as ultraviscous solvents for mixture analysis by NMR
Journal of Magnetic Resonance, 2011NMR of weakly polar analytes in an apolar ultraviscous solvent has recently been proposed for mixture analysis as a pertinent alternative to the DOSY experiment. The present article reports the first use of glycerol and glycerol carbonate as polar solvents for the NMR analysis of a model mixture of dipeptides.

Synthesis of glycerol carbonate from glycerol and dimethyl carbonate catalyzed by calcined silicates
Applied Catalysis A: General, 2017Abstract Several anhydrous silicates were prepared by calcination at 400 °C and utilized as solid base catalyst for synthesizing glycerol carbonate (GC) by transesterification of glycerol with dimethyl carbonate (DMC). Among them, calcined sodium silicate showed the best catalytic activity with glycerol conversion of 97.7%.

Synthesis of glycerol carbonate from glycerol and dimethyl carbonate catalyzed by K2CO3/MgO
Research on Chemical Intermediates, 2011A series of M/MgO (M = CaO, KNO3, KOH, K2CO3) catalysts were prepared by a dry impregnation method and used for synthesis of glycerol carbonate from glycerol and dimethyl carbonate. It was found that K2CO3/MgO was the most efficient catalyst, with a glycerol carbonate yield of approximately 99% under the conditions: DMC/glycerol molar ratio 2.5:1 ...

Synthesis of Glycerol Carbonate from Glycerol and Dimethyl Carbonate Using Ionic Liquid Catalysts
Journal of Biobased Materials and Bioenergy, 2016Acidic, basic and neutral ionic liquids (ILs) were prepared by two-step method. Their IR and NMR spectra showed that their structures were in accordance with their theoretical structure. Then these ILs were used as catalysts in the Glycerol carbonate (GC) of glycerol with dimethyl carbonate (DMC).
