Valorization of biodiesel waste glycerol to sustainable chemicals
Biofuels, Bioproducts and BiorefiningAbstract Biodiesel is an ecofriendly alternative to fossil fuels. Its production generates substantial amounts of crude glycerol, which can pose environmental hazards. Converting glycerol into value‐added chemicals offers a practical strategy to mitigate these risks.

The organoiridium derivatives [Cp*IrCl2]2 (Cp* = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) and [Cp*Ir(Bu2-NHC)Cl2], (Bu2-NHC = 1,3-di-n-butylimidazolylidene) catalyzed glycerol acetalization with several ketones and aldehydes, as well as transacetalization. All the catalytic reactions produced the five-membered cyclic ketals, i.e.

Exploring Catalytic Pathways for Glycerol Valorization: A Review
ChemCatChemABSTRACT The accelerated development of biodiesel plants leads to an excess of their major by‐product, glycerol. Significant efforts have been made to find applications for converting crude glycerol into valuable chemicals. Nevertheless, the current state of conversion technologies still faces difficulties concerning their commercial ...
