Mass spectrometry-based proteomic strategy for ecchymotic skin examination in forensic pathology
Mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics has recently attracted the attention from forensic pathologists. This work is the first report of the development of a shotgun bottom-up proteomic approach based on rapid protein extraction and nano-liquid ...

Erythrocyte invasion receptors for Plasmodium falciparum:new and old [PDF]
Understanding the complex process by which the invasive form of the Plasmodium falciparum parasite, the merozoite, attaches to and invades erythrocytes as part of its blood stage life cycle represents a key area of research in the battle to combat ...

Identification of lectin counter-receptors on cell membranes by proximity labelling [PDF]
Lectin-glycan interactions play important roles in many biological systems, but the nature of glycoprotein counter-receptors expressed on cell membranes is often poorly understood.

Pure Red Cell Aplasia That Developed 13 Years After Thymoma Treatment: A Case Report and Literature Review. [PDF]
A 47‐year‐old woman was diagnosed with invasive thymoma 13 years ago. She had undergone repeated surgeries, as well as chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Chemotherapy was discontinued after the patient developed normocytic anemia. Bone marrow biopsy results revealed pure red cell aplasia (PRCA).

Structure of a Sialo-Oligosaccharide from Glycophorin in Carp Red Blood Cell Membranes
We isolated a high-purity carp glycophorin from carp erythrocyte membranes and prepared the oligosaccharide fraction from glycophorin by β-elimination [1].

Human candidate gene polymorphisms and risk of severe malaria in children in Kilifi, Kenya: a case-control association study [PDF]
Background: Human genetic factors are important determinants of malaria risk. We investigated associations between multiple candidate polymorphisms—many related to the structure or function of red blood cells—and risk for severe Plasmodium falciparum ...

Chromosomal in situ suppression hybridization of immunologically classified mitotic cells in hematologic malignancies [PDF]
Chromosomal in situ suppression (CISS) hybridization was performed with library DNA from sorted human chromosomes 8, 9, 15, 17, 21, and 22 on immunologically stained bone marrow cells of four patients with a hematologic neoplasm, including two patients ...

Human glycophorin A, B, and E genes are homologous from the 5'-flanking region to 1 kilobase downstream from the exon encoding the transmembrane region. Analysis of human Alu sequences at the transition site from the homologous to nonhomologous region suggested that the GPA gene most closely resembles the ancestral gene, whereas GPB and GPE genes arose
