Cross-Sectional Study of Varicella Zoster Virus Immunity in Healthy Korean Children Assessed by Glycoprotein Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay and Fluorescent Antibody to Membrane Antigen Test

open access: yesVaccines, 2021
The prevalence of varicella is especially high among children in the age group of 4–6 years in South Korea, regardless of vaccination. We investigated the immune status of healthy children enrolled in day-care centers and compared pre- and post ...

Structural basis for the shielding function of the dynamic trypanosome variant surface glycoprotein coat [PDF]

open access: yesNature Microbiology 2 (2017), pp. 1523--1532, 2018
The most prominent defence of the unicellular parasite Trypanosoma brucei against the host immune system is a dense coat that comprises a variant surface glycoprotein (VSG). Despite the importance of the VSG family, no complete structure of a VSG has been reported.

ZONA PELLUCIDA GLYCOPROTEINS [PDF]

open access: yesAnnual Review of Biochemistry, 1988
All mammalian eggs are surrounded by a relatively thick extracellular coat, the zona pellucida, that plays vital roles during oogenesis, fertilization, and preimplantation development. The mouse zona pellucida consists of three glycoproteins that are synthesized solely by growing oocytes and assemble into long fibrils that constitute a matrix.

Functions of cell surface galectin-glycoprotein lattices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Programmed remodeling of cell surface glycans by the sequential action of specific glycosyltransferases can control biological processes by generating or masking ligands for endogenous lectins. Galectins, a family of animal lectins with affinity for beta-

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Progress in the Detection of Erythropoietin in Blood, Urine, and Tissue

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
Detection of erythropoietin (Epo) was difficult until a method was developed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). WADA recommended the Western blot technique using isoelectric focusing (IEF)-PAGE to show that natural Epo and injected erythropoiesis ...

Systematic profiling of cancer‐fibroblast interactions reveals drug combinations in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Fibroblasts, cells in the tumor environment, support ovarian cancer cell growth and alter morphology and drug response. We used fibroblast and cancer cell co‐culture models to test 528 drugs and discovered new drugs for combination treatment. We showed that adding Vorinostat or Birinapant to standard chemotherapy may improve drug response, suggesting ...

Identification of Diaryl-Quinoline Compounds as Entry Inhibitors of Ebola Virus

open access: yesViruses, 2018
Ebola virus is the causative agent of Ebola virus disease in humans. The lethality of Ebola virus infection is about 50%, supporting the urgent need to develop anti-Ebola drugs.

Effect of Intermediate Plus Vaccine and vvIBDV on Bursa Secretory Cells and Their Glycoprotein Production

open access: yesViruses, 2023
There are two types of secretory cells in the chicken bursa of Fabricius (BF): (a) interfollicular epithelial cells (IFE), and (b) bursal secretory dendritic cells (BSDC) in the medulla of bursal follicles.

Lectin based glycoprotein analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Many of the biopharmaceutical therapeutics entering the market and currently in clinical trails are recombinant glycoprotein molecules, the glycan moieties of which have a significant impact on efficacy and immunogenicity.
