Bioactive microbial metabolites from glycyrrhetinic acid
Phytochemistry, 2010Biotransformation of 18beta-glycyrrhetinic acid, using Absidia pseudocylinderospora ATCC 24169, Gliocladium viride ATCC 10097 and Cunninghamella echinulata ATCC 8688a afforded seven metabolites, which were identified by different spectroscopic techniques (1H, 13C NMR, DEPT, 1H-1H COSY, HMBC and HMQC). Three of these metabolites, viz.

Metabolism of Glycyrrhetinic Acid in Human Subjects
Nature, 1954IN a series of publications Groen, Pelser, Frenkel, Kamminga and Willebrands1–6 have reported on the successful treatment of Addison's disease by extract of liquorice, glycyrrhizinic acid or glycyrrhetinic acid. It was shown that either the crude liquorice extract or its active component produced an effect on electrolyte metabolism which was entirely ...

The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2009
Elevated cortisol concentrations have been associated with metabolic diseases such as diabetes type 2 and obesity. 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (11beta-HSD) type 1, catalyzing the conversion of inactive 11-ketoglucocorticoids into their active 11beta-hydroxy forms, plays an important role in the regulation of cortisol levels within specific ...

Prolonged Administration of Glycyrrhetinic Acid in Rats
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1964Prolonged administration of glycyrrhetinic acid was studied in immature female rats, castrated male donor parabionts, and mature cyclic rats. Glycyrrhetinic acid treatment for 7 days interfered with the uterotrophic response of immature rats to estradiol benzoate but had no effect on the pituitary-ACTH content.
