Some properties of glycyrrhizic acid
Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 1994The chemical and spectral properties of crystalline specimens of glycyrrhizic acid and its monoammonium salt have been studied. On the basis of1H and13C NMR results, diagnostic parameters of the 18β/18α-epimers have been revealed, and features of the structure of the carbohydrate moiety of these compounds are discussed.

Effect of Glycyrrhizic Acid on Lappaconitine Phototransformation
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 20071H NMR and CIDNP methods were used to demonstrate that triterpene glycoside (glycyrrhizic acid, GA) can substantially change the efficiency and direction of phototransformation of alkaloid lappaconitine (LA) due to both its solubilization in GA micelles and protonation of LA amine nitrogen in water-alcohol solutions.

New Amino-Acid Conjugates of Glycyrrhizic Acid
Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 2014New conjugates of glycyrrhizic acid (GA) containing two amino-acid methyl esters (4-aminobutanoic, 6-aminohexanoic, 11-aminoundecanoic) were synthesized by the activated-ester method using N-hydroxysuccinimide (HOSu)-N,N′-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC).

Membrane-modifying activity of glycyrrhizic acid
Russian Chemical Bulletin, 2015Owing to amphiphilicity, glycyrrhizic acid is capable of forming complexes with a variety of hydrophobic therapeutic compounds. This is accompanied by a significant decrease in the therapeutic dose of the drug. In addition, glycyrrhizic acid has a strong influence on the permeability and elasticity of cell membranes.

Central hypertensinogenic effects of glycyrrhizic acid and carbenoxolone
American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, 1992The apparent mineralocorticoid excess syndrome of patients ingesting large amounts of licorice or its derivatives is thought to be caused by the antagonism by these compounds of the enzyme 11 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (11 beta-HSD). 11 beta-HSD inactivates cortisol and corticosterone, allowing the more abundantly produced glucocorticoids access

Isolating and Purification Technologies for Glycyrrhizic Acid
Journal of Separation ScienceABSTRACTGlycyrrhizic acid (GA) is the primary active component of the traditional Chinese medicinal herb licorice. It possesses antimicrobial, anti‐inflammatory, and antitumor activities. In addition, due to its unique sweetness, it can also be used as a food additive. Traditional Chinese medicines are typically used directly as drugs.

Glycyrrhizic acid and its hydrolysate as mineralocorticoid agonist
Journal of Steroid Biochemistry, 1987Mineralocorticoid activity of glycyrrhetinic acid (GR) was studied in vivo (electrical potential difference in rat rectum) and in vitro (brush border Mg2+-HCO3- ATPase in rat small intestine, kidney cytosol binding of GR with and without RU-28362, anti-glucocorticoid compound) in order to clarify the mechanism of mineralocorticoid-like activity of GR ...
