Glyphosate persistence in seawater

open access: yesMarine Pollution Bulletin, 2014
Glyphosate is one of the most widely applied herbicides globally but its persistence in seawater has not been reported. Here we quantify the biodegradation of glyphosate using standard "simulation" flask tests with native bacterial populations and coastal seawater from the Great Barrier Reef.

Effect of Glyphosate Application on Foliar Diseases in Glyphosate-Tolerant Alfalfa [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Disease, 2012
Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup herbicide, inhibits 5-enol-pyruvyl shikimate 3-phophate synthase (EPSPS), an enzyme found in plants, fungi, and bacteria. Plants engineered for glyphosate tolerance with a glyphosate-insensitive EPSPS take up and translocate the herbicide throughout the plant.

Combined effects of canola plant density and insecticide management strategies on flea beetle abundance, canola defoliation, and yield across the Canadian prairies

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Increasing canola plant density reduced flea beetle abundance per plant and increased yield, independent of region or insecticide use, highlighting its potential as a component of integrated pest management. Abstract The crucifer flea beetle, Phyllotreta cruciferae (Goeze), and the striped flea beetle, Phyllotreta striolata (Fabricius) (Coleoptera ...

Overexpression of G10-EPSPS in soybean provides high glyphosate tolerance

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2019
Glyphosate is a highly efficient, broad-spectrum nonspecific herbicide that inhibits the 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS)-mediated pathway of shikimic acid.

Environmental and Toxicological Impacts of Glyphosate with Its Formulating Adjuvant

open access: yes, 2014
Environmental and toxicological characteristics of formulated pesticides may substantially differ from those of their active ingredients or other components alone. This phenomenon is demonstrated in the case of the herbicide active ingredient glyphosate.

Analysis of glutamine synthetase target‐site mutations and their role in endowing glufosinate‐ammonium resistance

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
GS2.2 G255D mutation conferred enzyme‐level glufosinate insensitivity but no whole‐plant resistance, showing trade‐offs between catalytic function and herbicide binding and providing a baseline for future studies on target‐site glufosinate resistance.

First report of glyphosate-resistant downy brome (Bromus tectorum L.) in Canada

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Glyphosate is the most used herbicide worldwide, and is an important source of economical weed control in glyphosate-resistant crops, and conservation tillage systems, among other uses.

Managing pests by increasing predators through late termination of cover crops

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Adding cover crops to crop rotations can improve the sustainability and ecosystem functioning of agroecosystems. By delaying cover‐crop termination, growers can effectively increase natural enemy populations and reduce the need for chemical controls. Abstract BACKGROUND Adding cover crops to crop rotations can improve the sustainability and ecosystem ...

Glyphosate resistance in annual ryegrass (Lolium rigidum Gaud.) with multiple resistance mechanisms.

open access: yes, 2010
Glyphosate (N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine) is a post-emergent, systemic and non-selective herbicide for the control of annual and perennial weeds. This herbicide has very low toxicity to the mammals.
