On Multiple Decoding Attempts for Reed-Solomon Codes: A Rate-Distortion Approach

open access: yes, 2010
One popular approach to soft-decision decoding of Reed-Solomon (RS) codes is based on using multiple trials of a simple RS decoding algorithm in combination with erasing or flipping a set of symbols or bits in each trial.

Advances in the genetics of refractive errors: Contributions from the CREAM consortium

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract The Consortium for Refractive Error and Myopia (CREAM) was established in 2011, bringing together an international team of researchers studying more than 30 cohorts. Since its establishment, CREAM has played a pivotal role in research investigating the genetics of myopia and other refractive errors, serving as a key driver of progress in the ...

Transcriptome-wide analysis for glucocorticoid receptor-mediated mRNA decay reveals various classes of target transcripts

open access: yesMolecules and Cells
: The glucocorticoid receptor (GR) can bind to DNA or RNA, eliciting transcriptional activation/repression or rapid messenger RNA (mRNA) degradation, respectively. Although GR-mediated transcriptional regulation has been well-characterized, the molecular

Geomagnetic disturbances driven by solar activity enhance total and cardiovascular mortality risk in 263 U.S. cities

open access: yesEnvironmental Health, 2019
Background Short-term geomagnetic disturbances (GMD) driven by the quasi-periodic 11-year cycle of solar activity have been linked to a broad range of adverse health effects, including cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and total deaths.

Zebrafish as a model for Catel–Manzke syndrome—identification and characterization of the zebrafish TGDS ortholog

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Zebrafish Tgds, when expressed as a recombinant protein, catalyzes the dehydration of UDP‐D‐glucose, the initial step in the formation of 6‐deoxyhexoses. Corresponding Tgds mutations found in Catel–Manzke syndrome patients lead to reduced enzymatic activity and stability.

Adherence to Clotting Factor Prophylaxis in Adolescent and Adult Males With Haemophilia

open access: yesHaemophilia, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Clotting factor prophylaxis remains the most prescribed standard‐of‐care treatment for people with haemophilia (PwH). Prophylaxis prevents bleeds, joint damage, and improves quality of life (QoL). Its success depends on treatment adherence, consisting of socioeconomic, behavioural, and disease‐ or therapy‐related factors.

Probabilistic Behavior Analysis of MIMO Fading Channels under Geometric Mean Decomposition

open access: yesJournal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2012
Geometric mean decomposition (GMD) has been proposed as a method to realize multiple spatial links with identical gains that are intrinsic to a MIMO channel.

A New Chase-type Soft-decision Decoding Algorithm for Reed-Solomon Codes

open access: yes, 2013
This paper addresses three relevant issues arising in designing Chase-type algorithms for Reed-Solomon codes: 1) how to choose the set of testing patterns; 2) given the set of testing patterns, what is the optimal testing order in the sense that the most-

Genetic Parameters of Age at Conception in Nellore Females Using Threshold Models

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Age at conception is a critical factor in the intensification of production systems. It is crucial for intensifying production, optimising reproductive efficiency and boosting Nellore female productivity for genetic progress. However, the low heritability estimates currently limit the effectiveness of selection responses, thereby underscoring ...
