First-principles investigations of the magnetic phase diagram of Gd$_{1-x}$Ca$_{x}$MnO$_{3}$

open access: yes, 2019
We studied for the first time the magnetic phase diagram of the rare-earth manganites series Gd$_{1-x}$Ca$_{x}$MnO$_{3}$ (GCMO) over the full concentration range based on density functional theory. GCMO has been shown to form solid solutions.

Klebsiella sp. strain B7 enhances alkaline tolerance by secreting pyruvic acid to accelerate L‐malic acid accumulation in soybean

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Klebsiella sp. strain B7 acts as a positive regulator in alkaline stress responses in soybean. By activating pyruvic acid metabolism and L‐malic acid biosynthesis pathways, B7 significantly increases alkaline tolerance and yield in soybean. ABSTRACT Alkaline stress is a major constraint on crop growth and development and negatively impacts soybean ...

Comitology between Political Decision-Making and Technocratic Governance: Regulating GMOs in the European Union [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The EU’s comitology system is generally considered to be an effective mechanism for facilitating efficient policy implementation while at the same time ensuring a degree of Member State control over the process.

Running an electron microscopy core facility

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract As electron microscopes became more costly, technically complex, and integral to a wide range of scientific fields, centralised electron microscopy (EM) core facilities have become essential for maintaining accessibility, performance, and quality.

Risk management of unintended GMO contamination in the supply chain of maize and processed maize products [PDF]

open access: yes
Production and processing of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in line with the European food safety and labelling regulations lead to an elevated risk of unintentional GMO contamination in food producing and processing companies.

Superlubricity mechanism of diamond-like carbon with glycerol. Coupling of experimental and simulation studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We report a unique tribological system that produces superlubricity under boundary lubrication conditions with extremely little wear. This system is a thin coating of hydrogen-free amorphous Diamond-Like-Carbon (denoted as ta-C) at 353 K in a ta-C/ta-C ...

Responsible Innovation: The Impact of Major Industrial Disasters and Gender in a Global South Context

open access: yesJournal of Product Innovation Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Responsible innovation (RI) dynamics remain underexplored in Global South contexts, which have a high prevalence of micro‐ and small enterprises and are vulnerable to the devastating effects of industrial disasters. Only a few studies examine RI within such settings, where it is arguably needed most.

Genetically modified foods in the opinion of the second-year students of biology, biotechnology and tourism and recreation of the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce – a preliminary study

open access: yesEnvironmental Protection and Natural Resources, 2017
The aim of this work was to assess knowledge of and to identify awareness in second-year students of biology, biotechnology and tourism and recreation, regarding the use of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in food.

A simple model of DNA denaturation and mutually avoiding walks statistics

open access: yes, 2002
Recently Garel, Monthus and Orland (Europhys. Lett. v 55, 132 (2001)) considered a model of DNA denaturation in which excluded volume effects within each strand are neglected, while mutual avoidance is included.
