GMRES and Weighted GMRES for solving nonsymmetric linear systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The Implementation and some mathematical properties of GMRES and weighted GMRES (WGMRES) are described. Numerical experiments originally performed by Essai (1998) are performed to compare the two methods.

A Modified GMRES Method for Solving a Symmetric Solution to Lyapunov Equation for Multi-Agent Systems

open access: yesSICE Journal of Control, Measurement, and System Integration, 2019
We consider solving a large-scale Lyapunov equation for a multi-agent system. As is well known, the Lyapunov equation can be solved by equivalently rewriting it as a system of linear equations.

An Electric Field Volume Integral Equation Approach to Simulate Surface Plasmon Polaritons

open access: yesAdvanced Electromagnetics, 2013
In this paper we present an electric field volume integral equation approach to simulate surface plasmon propagation along metal/dielectric interfaces. Metallic objects embedded in homogeneous dielectric media are considered.

Geometry Analysis of Two Photon Polymerized Microneedles—An Experimental and Simulated Approach

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 143, Issue 22, June 10, 2026.
This research investigates the mechanical stability of hollow, two‐photon‐polymerized microneedles for drug delivery. In an experimental setup, a steel stamp gradually compresses 1000 μm‐tall microneedles while recording their force–deformation response.

Computable Convergence Bounds for GMRES [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 2000
The purpose of this paper is to derive new computable convergence bounds for GMRES. The new bounds depend on the initial guess and are thus conceptually different from standard "worst-case" bounds. Most importantly, approximations to the new bounds can be computed from information generated during the run of a certain GMRES implementation.

Coupled Clustering in Hierarchical Matrices for the Oseen Problem

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, Volume 98, Issue 6, Page 751-765, June 2026.
Fluid flow problems can be modelled by the Navier‐Stokes or, after linearization, by the Oseen equations. Their discretization results in linear systems in saddle point form which are typically very large and need to be solved iteratively. We propose a novel block structure for hierarchical matrices which is then used to build preconditioners for the ...

On the regularizing properties of the GMRES method [PDF]

open access: yesNumerische Mathematik, 2002
The generalized minimal residual (GMRES) method equipped with a stopping criterion based on the discrepancy principle is used to solve nonsymmetric nonsingular ill-posed problems with a right-hand side contaminated with errors. When the inverse operator \(A^{-1}\) of the linear system \(Ax=b\) is not bounded and the exact right-hand side \(b\) is not ...

Multilevel acceleration of scattering-source iterations with application to electron transport

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2017
Acceleration/preconditioning strategies available in the SCEPTRE radiation transport code are described. A flexible transport synthetic acceleration (TSA) algorithm that uses a low-order discrete-ordinates (SN) or spherical-harmonics (PN) solve to ...

Eficiência dos Métodos Multigrid Algébricos para a Solução da Equação do Fluxo Livre Estacionário em Domínio Georreferenciado

open access: yesTrends in Computational and Applied Mathematics, 2022
Neste artigo o método multigrid algébrico baseado em agregação suavizada, o método clássico de Ruge-Stüben e o método GMRES pré-condicionado por multigrid algébrico foram utilizados para a solução da equação do fluxo livre estacionário em domínio ...

Chebyshev Smoothing With Adaptive Block‐FSAI Preconditioners for the Multilevel Solution of Higher‐Order Problems With the Partition of Unity Method

open access: yesNumerical Linear Algebra with Applications, Volume 33, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT In this paper, we assess the performance of adaptive and nested factorized sparse approximate inverses as smoothers in multilevel V‐cycles, when smoothing is performed following the Chebyshev iteration of the fourth kind, for the efficient solution of linear systems arising from a conforming discretization of higher‐order partial differential ...
