Therapeutic access points: The roles of circumventricular organs in drug delivery and metabolic regulation

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
The current obesity drug landscape, dominated by GLP‐1 receptor agonists and emerging multi‐agonist therapies, has reinforced that long‐term weight loss is achieved in large part through central mechanisms that suppress appetite and reshape energy balance.

Current Approaches to Support Patients to Withdraw From Image and Performance Enhancing Drugs

open access: yesClinical Endocrinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Image and performance‐enhancing drugs (IPEDs) include agents such as androgens, growth hormone, and erythropoietin, which are used to enhance appearance and physical performance. Androgens, also known as anabolic‐androgenic steroids (AAS), are the most used IPEDs worldwide.

Euploidy rate and pregnancy outcomes in preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy cycles using progestin-primed ovarian stimulation versus GnRH antagonist protocol

open access: yesReproductive Biology and Endocrinology
Background Previous studies has yielded contradictory findings regarding the relationship between controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) protocol and euploid blastocyst rate. This study aimed to investigate whether progestin-primed ovarian stimulation

Orally active gnRH-antagonist AEZS-115 inhibits growth of human ovarian and breast cancers in vitro.

open access: yes, 2009
Abstract #3065 Introduction: AEZS-115 is an orally active peptidomimetic antagonist of GnRH, which has been shown to block the pituitary GnRH receptor in nanomolar range.

Cardiometabolic Protein Profile Changes During Gender‐Affirming Hormone Therapy: A Prospective Clinical Study

open access: yesClinical Endocrinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk is elevated in transgender individuals during gender‐affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) with expected different mechanisms between T‐ and E2‐based GAHT. We investigated prospective changes in cardiometabolic proteins relating to complement, inflammation, and transport during GAHT.

Ovarian pain in the mare: Clinical implications of mittelschmerz and oestrus‐related behavioural abnormalities

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Mittelschmerz is a well‐recognised benign peri‐ovulatory pain syndrome in women and, by physiological analogy, may also occur in mares. In equine practice, peri‐ovulatory ovarian pain has been associated with transient discomfort, colic‐like signs and behavioural changes, although its true clinical relevance remains poorly defined.

Local and Systemic Risk Factors of Dental Biofilm‐Induced Gingivitis and Their Control: A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Periodontology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To identify local and systemic risk factors/indicators for dental biofilm‐induced gingivitis (DB‐GI) and to summarize evidence for their control. Methods A systematic review was undertaken following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and divided into PECOTS and PICOTS questions ...

Menopause and vascular endothelial health: Is it all about the oestrogen?

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of mortality in women, and CVD risk is accelerated during the menopause transition. This acceleration has traditionally been attributed to the hallmark decline in oestradiol with menopause. However, the menopause transition is also characterized by changes in other sex hormones that exert effects
