Molecular Gold—Multinuclear Gold(I) Complexes
Angewandte Chemie, 2000Aurophilicity has been a topic of immense interest and has played an important role in multinuclear gold(I) chemistry. Several polynuclear gold(I) chalcogenido, amido, and mixed-metal complexes have been reported very recently which might give new insights into the strategies for the construction of multinuclear gold(I) clusters.

A rare syndrome of acute pulmonary damage due to gold therapy is described. It appears to be an entity separate from the usually reported side-effects of gold. It has a good prognosis, responding to the cessation of gold and to corticosteroid therapy.

Nephropathy with proteinuria is an occasional complication of gold therapy for rheumatoid arthritis and is considered to be due to an immune hypersensitivity reaction. Three patients are described in whom the structural changes typical of gold nephropathy were demonstrated by electron microscopy of renal biopsies.

Metal Finishing, 1994
Abstract Gold electroplating was invented in 1840. During the first 100 years electrodeposited gold was used primarily for its aesthetic appeal as a decorative finish. This article provides a description of the gold plating process and the electrolytes used. It discusses the decorative and industrial applications of gold plating.

A case of severe colitis, which developed in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis after administration of sodium aurothiomalate, is reported. Early recognition of this rare, but potentially fatal, complication is essential. Rectal biopsy should be performed as part of the early assessment.

Gold is known to be the noblest of all metals because of the relativistic stabilization of its outer 6s orbital. The relativistic effects also lead to destabilization of the 5d orbitals, reducing the 6s-5d energy gap and enhancing s-d hybridization. Therefore, in contrast to its lighter congeners, gold exhibits significant covalent bonding characters ...
