Laser Welding of Gold Alloys

open access: yesJournal of Dental Research, 1972
A neodymium glass laser was used to produce weld joints between test pieces of four different casting gold alloys. The mechanical properties of the welds were determined and their microstructures were evaluated. The results of this study indicate that laser welding of dental casting gold alloys is metallurgically feasible.

Hardening of Gold-Based Alloys

open access: yesJournal of Dental Research, 1977
The relationships between composition, heat treatment, hardness and microstructure have been investigated for a number of commercial dental casting alloys and for several series of experimental gold-silver-copper compositions. The results indicate that at least two distinct hardening mechanisms must occur in these alloys.

Chemical Composition of Dental Gold Casting Alloy and Dental Wrought Gold Alloys

open access: yesJournal of Dental Research, 1969
The chemical composition of dental casting gold alloys and dental wrought gold wire alloys was determined by use of a modification of a previously described X-ray emission method. Since 1928 and 1932 there has been little change in either type of alloy; there has been a decrease in platinum content in both, and 1 % nickel is now found in wire alloys.

The gold solder, gold alloy interface

Australian Dental Journal, 1977
Abstract— With soldering the physical properties of the basis metal must be maintained and a minimum of molten metal is used. An examination of joints in 17 gauge platinized gold wire is made with 18 k gold solder following quenching immediately after flow and cooling in air; there is a widening of grain boundaries and intergranulation penetration in ...

The Colour of Gold and Gold Alloy Electrodeposits

Transactions of the IMF, 1983
The thickness of gold required to cover the colour of the substrate has been determined and found to be 0.23 μm for a matt gold deposit on a substrate prepared to 600 grit and 0.06 μm for a bright ...

Observations on gold-palladium-silver and gold-palladium alloys

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1980
Properties, heat treatment response, structure, and composition of three high-fusing crown and fixed partial denture alloys were studied. Except for elongation, the properties of two gold-palladium-silver based materials were compared to those of a gold-palladium alloy.
