Metallographic techniques in gold alloy study: Delamination in a white gold alloy

Metallography, 1984
Abstract The structure and phase transformations that occurred during the working and heat treatment of an eighteen-carat gold alloy used in jewel making were studied. A delamination phenomenon encountered during rolling was attributed to the formation of a discontinuous globular phase, clearly observable in the microscope, but chemically ...

Electropolishing of gold and gold-rich alloys

Micron (1969), 1977
Abstract The use of a mixture of sulphuric and hydrochloric acid is proposed for electropolishing gold and gold-rich alloys for study by electron microscopy. The results obtained using the proposed electrolyte are illustrated using an ordered Au4Zn specimen in which different phases of Au3Zn(H) and Au3+Zn can be recognized.

Alloys with Gold

1991
The bulk diffusion of gold into rhodium in thin films has been studied by [13]. Do was found to be 4.2 x 10−11 cm2/s and Q=0.93±0.28 eV. The bulk diffusion coefficients are plotted against reciprocal temperature in Fig. 173. The authors point out that these values of Q and Do are lower than would be expected for lattice diffusion in face-centred cubic ...

Pseudomorphic growth of palladium and palladium–gold alloys on gold

Physica Status Solidi (a), 1981
The pseudomorphic growth of epitaxial Pd-films on Au-single crystal layers is studied by means of transmission electron microscopy. Partial pseudomorphic growth at increasing deposit thickness as well as the critical thickness for complete pseudomorphism are measured. The misfit in the system is varied by deposition of PdAu alloys.

Reflectivity of gold and gold-silver alloys

Economic Geology, 1967
Reflectivities of gold-silver alloys between 500 and 1,000 fine are given for six wavelengths and the curve showing spectral dispersion of reflectivity of pure gold is compared with those produced by other workers. The polishing technique is shown to have a profound effect on the optical properties, with a range of up to 15 percent in reflectivity ...
