The gold solder, gold alloy interface
Australian Dental Journal, 1977Abstract— With soldering the physical properties of the basis metal must be maintained and a minimum of molten metal is used. An examination of joints in 17 gauge platinized gold wire is made with 18 k gold solder following quenching immediately after flow and cooling in air; there is a widening of grain boundaries and intergranulation penetration in ...

Hardening of Gold-Based Alloys
Journal of Dental Research, 1977The relationships between composition, heat treatment, hardness and microstructure have been investigated for a number of commercial dental casting alloys and for several series of experimental gold-silver-copper compositions. The results indicate that at least two distinct hardening mechanisms must occur in these alloys.

A neodymium glass laser was used to produce weld joints between test pieces of four different casting gold alloys. The mechanical properties of the welds were determined and their microstructures were evaluated. The results of this study indicate that laser welding of dental casting gold alloys is metallurgically feasible.

Low-gold fixed prosthodontic alloys
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1982Abstract Properties, heat treatment characteristics, composition, and microstructure of three low-gold dental casting alloys were studied. The materials exhibited vast compositional differences but strikingly similar structural features. Laboratory evaluation of the properties of these test materials suggest their potential use in fixed ...

Chemical Composition of Dental Gold Casting Alloy and Dental Wrought Gold Alloys
Journal of Dental Research, 1969The chemical composition of dental casting gold alloys and dental wrought gold wire alloys was determined by use of a modification of a previously described X-ray emission method. Since 1928 and 1932 there has been little change in either type of alloy; there has been a decrease in platinum content in both, and 1 % nickel is now found in wire alloys.

Samarium-gold and dysprosium-gold alloy systems
Journal of the Less Common Metals, 1973Abstract Phase diagrams of the samarium-gold and dysprosium-gold alloy systems based on microscopic, differential thermal and X-ray diffraction analyses are proposed. Six intermetallic compounds, Dy 2 Au, DyAu, DyAu 2 , DyAu 3 , DyAu 3.6 and DyAu 6 , form in the Dy-Au system.
