Gold mining in Zululand

open access: yesNew Contree, 2006

Application of hydrocyclones for recovery of fine gold from placer material [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
Alaska and other gold areas have seen a sharp resurgence of placer mining in the last few years. Mines using sluice boxes usually recover gold down to 100 mesh, but recovery of gold finer than this size is a function of particle shape factor, sluice box ...

AI‐Based D‐Amino Acid Substitution for Optimizing Antimicrobial Peptides to Treat Multidrug‐Resistant Bacterial Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study constructed the first D‐amino acid antimicrobial peptide dataset and developed an AI model for efficient screening of substitution sites, with 80% of candidate peptides showing enhanced activity. The lead peptide dR2‐1 demonstrated potent antimicrobial activity in vitro and in vivo, high stability, and low toxicity.

Trojan Horse Strategy: How Biomimetic Nanomedicine Remodels the Tumor Microenvironment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review focuses on biomimetic nanomedicines for tumor microenvironment (TME) remodeling, covering their diverse biomimetic types, design principles, and mechanisms of immune cell reprogramming and reversal of immunosuppressive microenvironments, with particular emphasis on their application in synergistic immunotherapy.

MicrobeDiscover: A Knowledge Graph–Enabled AI Framework for Identifying Microbes for Inorganic Nanomaterial Biosynthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microbial synthesis of nanomaterials (NMs) is eco‐friendly, but the screening of microorganisms is limited by inefficient traditional methods (currently only involving∽400 microorganisms/90 NMs). We propose AI framework MicrobeDiscover, integrating a knowledge graph of microbe‐NM interactions.

Wetland-based passive treatment systems for gold ore processing effluents containing residual cyanide, metals and nitrogen species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Gold extraction operations generate a variety of wastes requiring responsible disposal in compliance with current environmental regulations. During recent decades, increased emphasis has been placed on effluent control and treatment, in order to avoid ...

Mapping CSC‐Mediated Ovarian Cancer Chemoresistance via CXCR4‐PET to Guide Precision Cisplatin Re‐Sensitization Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CXCR4 functions as a potential cancer stem cell‐associated marker linked to chemoresistance in ovarian cancer, and an inhibitor of CXCR4, AMD3100, can enhance the cytotoxic response to cisplatin. Based on these findings, [68Ga]Ga‐Pentixafor positron emission tomography enables selective visualization of CXCR4‐high ovarian cancer, while AMD3100 combined

Informal gold mining and mercury pollution in Brazil [PDF]

open access: yes
The Amazon region has been responsible for a major share of Brazilian gold production in recent years. The region has witnessed a sizable gold rush comparable only to the California gold rush last century.

Entanglements and disentanglements : a posthuman approach to mercury use in artisanal and small-scale gold mining in Antioquia, Colombia : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Social Anthropology at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This research uses qualitative research techniques and posthuman theories to investigate the dynamic relationship between artisanal and small-scale gold miners and mercury in the context of Antioquia, Colombia.
