Transmission of chronic wasting disease identifies a prion strain causing cachexia and heart infection in hamsters. [PDF]
Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is an emerging prion disease of free-ranging and captive cervids in North America. In this study we established a rodent model for CWD in Syrian golden hamsters that resemble key features of the disease in cervids including ...

SUPEROVULATION AND SUPERPREGNANCY IN THE GOLDEN HAMSTER* [PDF]
Pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) treatment given in the morning or afternoon on any day of the four-day estrous cycle and human chorionic gonado tropin (HCG) given two days later successfully induced superovulation in the golden hamster. The minimum interval between PMSG and HCG necessary to obtain consistent superovulation was approximately 44 ...

Intussusception in the Syrian Golden hamster [PDF]
Of a series of ninety-six young male Syrian Golden hamsters, 13% developed lethargy, anorexia, diarrhoea and colocolic intussusception when their diet was changed from a basal laboratory-grade rodent chow to a nutritionally complete semi-purified diet. Histologically, the colon of the hamsters with intussusception had markedly reduced mucus production.

Characterization of SHARPIN knockout Syrian hamsters developed using CRISPR/Cas9 system
Background SHARPIN (SHANK‐associated RH domain interactor) is a component of the linear ubiquitination complex that regulates the NF‐κB signaling pathway. To better understand the function of SHARPIN, we sought to establish a novel genetically engineered

Apocrine Adenocarcinoma in a Golden Hamster.
An apocrine adenocarcinoma was observed in the subcutis of the abdomen of golden hamster. Histologically, the tumor cells irregularly formed multiple layers of cysts and some detached cells were presented in the cystic space. PAS stain with alpha-amylase digestion revealed PAS-positive alpha-amylase-resistant granules in the cytoplasm ...
