Discrete Gompertz equation and model selection between Gompertz and logistic models

International Journal of Forecasting, 2021
Abstract A discrete Gompertz model and model selection between the Gompertz and logistic models are proposed. The proposed method utilizes the difference between the regression equations for the proposed and the discrete logistic models. The difference is whether the log of both sides is taken or not.

Fitting a Gompertz Curve

Journal of the Operational Research Society, 1994
In this paper, a simple Gompertz curve-fitting procedure is proposed. Its advantages include the facts that the stability of the saturation level over the sample period can be checked, and that no knowledge of its value is necessary for forecasting. An application to forecasting the stock of cars in the Netherlands illustrates its merits.

Gompertz curves, allometry and embryogenesis

The Bulletin of Mathematical Biophysics, 1970
A number of new properties of the Gompertz curve are derived. In particular, the curve is shown to be of particular importance in the theory of biological similitude, because of a direct relation to the allometric law. A discussion is included indicating some of the practical limitations of the theory.

Gompertz in Context: The Gompertz and Related Distributions

2001
A model often used in mortality analysis and forecasting is the Gompertz model. The model is attractive because the mathematical specification is consistent with theories of ageing. Other models that are used less often share some of the useful features of the Gompertz model. Furthermore, the Gompertz can be approached as a member of families of models

Gompertz Pharmacokinetic Model for Drug Disposition

Pharmaceutical Research, 2002
Disposition of drugs among compartments of the body usually occurs at changing rates that are commonly modeled as sums of exponential terms with different rate constants. This paper describes an alternative. Gompertz kinetics, in which the rates can change systematically.Differential equations were developed and solved that fit typical examples taken ...

Gompertz–Makeham life expectancies: Expressions and applications

Theoretical Population Biology, 2013
In a population of individuals, whose mortality is governed by a Gompertz-Makeham hazard, we derive closed-form solutions to the life-expectancy integral, corresponding to the cases of homogeneous and gamma-heterogeneous populations, as well as in the presence/absence of the Makeham term.

Hormesis, gompertz functions, and risk assessment

Drug Metabolism Reviews, 1988
A historical survey of the literature indicates that benefits derived from low doses of toxic substances have been reported over many centuries. Hippocrates, Paracelsus, Arndt, Schulz, and Hahnemann (founder of homeopathy) have all reported that low doses of toxic substances may be "stimulatory" or otherwise beneficial.
