GONADAL DYSGENESIS: ON MATURE REFLECTION!

Age and Ageing, 1988
It is unusual for disorders of sexual differentiation to be first diagnosed in old age. We describe a case of 46XY pure gonadal dysgenesis, aged 93 years at the time of diagnosis, the oldest patient with this disorder ever reported.

Skeletal Maturation in Streak Gonad Syndrome

Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation, 2010
Skeletal ages of patients with streak gonad syndrome were determined by the Schinz and TW2 methods as well as by bone scans. Seventy-three subjects were examined. They were classified according to their chromosomal complement, body height, chronological age and previous hormonal treatment. Retarded bone age was a common finding on the hand, wrist, hip,

Neuropeptide Y in the human prenatal and mature gonads

Neuropeptides, 1996
In the present paper we have examined the distribution and identity of neuropeptide Y (NPY) immunoreactivity in the prenatal and mature human gonads. Tissue specimens were obtained from prenatal gonads (gestational age < 42 weeks) of induced abortions, premature birth and stillbirths.

Effect of infantile stimulation on gonadal maturation of rats

Journal of Psychosomatic Research, 1968
Abstract The present study investigated the effect of preweaning handling on gonadal maturation of rats. Analysis of the results indicated that the apparent variation between handled and non-handled animals was primarily due to between litter differences. The findings of the study emphasize the importance of considering differences between litters in

ADRENAL AND GONADAL STEROIDS IN GIRLS DURING SEXUAL MATURATION

Clinical Endocrinology, 1978
SUMMARYThe peripheral venous plasma concentrations of gonadotrophins (LH and FSH), prolactin (Prl), cortisol, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHA), dehydroepiandrosterone‐sulphate (DHA‐S), pregnenolone (Δ5P), progesterone (P), 17‐hydroxyprogesterone (17P), androstenedione (A), testosterone (T), dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and oestradiol (E2) were measured in ...

Ethanol: A Gonadal Toxin in the Mature Rat of Both Sexes

Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, 1980
A diet containing 5% ethanol, accounting for 36% of the total calories or a similar diet in which dextrimaltose was isocalorically substituted for ethanol, was fed to sexually mature adult male and female rats to determine whether alcohol feeding of such animals could produce gonadal failure as it does in weanling animals.

Maturation of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal Negative Feedback System

Endocrinology, 1969
A series of experiments was performed in order to determine the age at which circulating steroids from the ovaries first begin to suppress gonadotropin secretion. Female Sprague- Dawley rats were bilaterally ovariectomized or sham-operated within 24 hr of birth and sacrificed at 5,10, 15, 20, 30, 40 and 75 days of age.

Nonneoplastic Gonadal Testosterone Secretion as a Cause of Vaginal Cell Maturation in Streak Gonad Syndrome

Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation, 2010
Endocrine studies were carried out on 3 patients with streak gonad syndrome, 2 of whom had slight proliferative vaginal smear patterns, and the 3rd had slight hirsutism with increased muscle mass but an atrophic type vaginal smear pattern. Simultaneous sampling of peripheral, adrenal and streak gonadal venous blood revealed mildly increased ...
