Functional maturation of the gonads of Turkish hamsters under various photoperiods [PDF]
Biology of Reproduction, 1986 The golden hamster, Mesocricetus auratus, is the only photoperiodic rodent to date that has been shown to fail to respond to inhibitory (i.e., short, less than 12.5 h/day) photoperiods until after pubertal onset. In other photoperiodic hamsters, mice, and voles, short photoperiods greatly retard gonadal maturation.
