Identification and biosynthesis of steroid hormones in the gonads ofCiona intestinalis

Gonadal Steroids and Hormone Antagonists
1987Continued investigation into the role of plasma lipoproteins in the development of atherosclerosis has led to increased interest in their interrelationships with gonadal hormones.

Effects of gonadal hormones on adrenal steroid metabolism in vitro
Steroids, 1972Abstract The effects of gonadal hormones on adrenal steroidogenesis were studied in vitro . Cholesterol side-chain cleavage activity was stimulated by orchiectomy and the effect was reversed by testosterone replacement. Neither ovariectomy nor estradiol administration affected the reaction.

Counteraction of Gonadal Steroid Inhibition of Luteinizing Hormone Release by Naloxone
Neuroendocrinology, 1982The effect of naloxone on the negative feedback action of gonadal steroids on luteinizing hormone (LH) release was studied in castrated male and female rats. The reduction by estradiol benzoate or testosterone propionate of elevated serum LH levels in rats ovariectomized for 4 weeks was reversed by a single injection of naloxone. Injection of estradiol

Hypothalamic Imprinting by Gonadal Steroid Hormones
2002The results of more than four decades of research on different mammalian species have established that the brain, like the rest of the reproductive system, is esentially basically female. For the male to develop structural and functional characteristics typical of his species, his brain must be exposed to testicular hormones during a critical period ...

Growth hormone, gonad development, and steroid levels in female carp
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Pharmacology, Toxicology and Endocrinology, 1996The pituitary and plasma growth hormone (GH) levels of female carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) were measured in fish of various sizes and degrees of maturity, and were matched against the levels of 17 beta-estradiol (E2), testosterone (T), 17 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone (17-P), and progesterone (P) in the ovary and plasma.

Influence of gonadal steroids on rat pituitary growth hormone secretion
Research in Experimental Medicine, 1990Growth hormone (GH) secretion increases at the time of puberty, and both androgens and estrogens increase the GH response to provocative agents. Little is known, however, with regard to the mechanism or site of action of gonadal steroid-stimulated GH secretion.

Effects of Gonadal Hormones and Contraceptive Steroids on Respiration
1969When the editors assigned me the task of reviewing the effects of gonadal hormones and contraceptive steroids on the pulmonary system, I replied that I was in somewhat of a quandry as to where to begin. Their suggestion was merely that all biological literature be reviewed and any appropriate data pertaining to these steroids and respiration be ...

Abstract Plasma and pituitary concentrations of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were measured in individual male rats pretreated with testosterone and its 5α-reduced metabolites for various lengths of time at various stages of sexual maturation. The degree of androgen induced inhibition of the gonadotropins depended on

Growth hormone binding protein in the rat: effects of gonadal steroids.
Endocrinology, 1993In normal rats, females have higher circulating GH-binding protein (GHBP) levels than males, whereas in the GH-deficient dwarf (Dw) rat, there is no sexual dimorphism in plasma GHBP, suggesting that GH secretion may be involved in this difference. In order to study the relationship between gonadal steroids and GH on GHBP and GH receptor regulation, the
