Gonadal Steroid Hormone Receptors and Social Behaviors [PDF]

open access: possible, 1989
In this chapter, we shall discuss one aspect of the cellular mechanism of action of steroid hormones on social behaviors, the role of steroid hormone receptors. Unfortunately, the study of cellular mechanisms of hormones is not compatible with many social behaviors.

Identification and biosynthesis of steroid hormones in the gonads ofCiona intestinalis

Experientia, 1971

Effects of gonadal hormones on adrenal steroid metabolism in vitro

Steroids, 1972
Abstract The effects of gonadal hormones on adrenal steroidogenesis were studied in vitro . Cholesterol side-chain cleavage activity was stimulated by orchiectomy and the effect was reversed by testosterone replacement. Neither ovariectomy nor estradiol administration affected the reaction.

The enkephalin system in the rat anterior pituitary: regulation by gonadal steroid hormones and psychotropic drugs.

Endocrinology, 1983
The regulation of pituitary enkephalin system by gonadal steroid hormones and psychotropic drugs was studied. A distinct sex-related difference of (Met5)- and (Leu5)-enkephalin-like immunoreactivity (ME-LI and LE-LI, respectively) was found in the ...

Newly proliferated cells in the adult male amygdala are affected by gonadal steroid hormones.

Journal of Neurobiology, 2003
Gonadal steroid hormones play an important role in the proliferation, survival, and activation of neurons. The present study was performed to examine the effects of testosterone and its metabolites on newly proliferated cells in the amygdala of adult ...

Effect of gonadal steroid hormones on plasma growth hormone concentrations in sexually immature rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss.

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1997
In the present study we investigated the effects of gonadal steroid hormones on plasma growth hormone (GH), triiodothyronine (T3), and thyroxine (T4) levels in steroid-primed sexually immature rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss, in order to determine ...

Protection by gonadal steroid hormones against procarbazine-induced damage to spermatogenic function in LBNF1 hybrid rats.

Journal of Andrology, 1993
Some anti-cancer drugs, such as procarbazine (PCZ), are associated with irreversible damage to spermatogenic function and cause sterility in men. In the present study, protection of spermatogenesis by gonadal steroid hormones during PCZ treatment was ...
