Immunomodulatory Actions of Gonadal Steroids May Be Mediated by Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone [PDF]

open access: yesEndocrinology, 2004
Estrogens are considered to be immunostimulatory, whereas androgens are considered to be immunosuppressive. We hypothesized that the divergent actions of gonadal steroids on the immune system may be mediated indirectly, via their potent divergent feedback effects on the hypothalamic hormone GnRH, which is itself immunostimulatory.

Midlife Steroid‐Binding Globulin Levels and In Vivo Neuroimaging Measures of Tau in Older Men and Women

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective In men and women, sex steroid hormones have been associated with increased risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) dementia. We aimed to investigate the influence of midlife testosterone and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) levels on later‐life in vivo markers of β‐amyloid (Aβ) and tau deposition in clinically healthy older men. Methods This time‐

Post-menopausal ovarian fibroma associated with steroid hormone synthesis: A case report

open access: yesTaiwanese Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2023
Objective: Ovarian fibromas are benign, sex cord-stromal tumors occurring in both peri- and post-menopausal women. Generally, these tumors are non-functional and do not produce hormones.

Automating LC-MS/MS mass chromatogram quantification. Wavelet transform based peak detection and automated estimation of peak boundaries and signal-to-noise ratio using signal processing methods [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
While there are many different methods for peak detection, no automatic methods for marking peak boundaries to calculate area under the curve (AUC) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) estimation exist. An algorithm for the automation of liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) mass chromatogram quantification was developed and validated ...

Altered expression of Alzheimer's disease-related proteins in male hypogonadal mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Age-related depletion of estrogens and androgens is associated with an increase in Alzheimer's disease (AD) brain pathology and diminished cognitive function. Here we investigated AD-associated molecular and cellular changes in brains of aged hypogonadal

Effect of gonadal steroid hormones on formalin‐induced temporomandibular joint inflammation [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Pain, 2012
AbstractWe have recently demonstrated that gonadal steroid hormones decrease formalin‐induced temporomandibular joint nociception in rats. Given that the attenuation of inflammation is a potential mechanism underlying this antinociceptive effect, we evaluated the effect of gonadal steroid hormones on formalin‐induced temporomandibular joint ...

Pharmacokinetics of Two Formulations of Altrenogest Administered to Mares

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
Pharmacokinetics of altrenogest in mares to determine expected concentrations of plasma altrenogest associated with oral and intramuscular administration. Quantification of altrenogest in mares is of increasing importance with prohibited formulations and restrictions on administration.

The Role of Steroid Hormones on the Modulation of Neuroinflammation by Dietary Interventions

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2016
Steroid hormones, such as sex hormones and glucocorticoids, have been demonstrated to play a role in different cellular processes in the central nervous system, ranging from neurodevelopment to neurodegeneration.

Endocrinology of Transgender Medicine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Gender-affirming treatment of transgender people requires a multidisciplinary approach in which endocrinologists play a crucial role. The aim of this paper is to review recent data on hormonal treatment of this population and its effect on physical ...
